I think this is the most complete bass tablature
done for RHCP's song, Other Side (from californication
album). I like so much that song. I know the tab
is long and all messed up but the song if fun
to play. I let more comments at the end of the
tab for "advanced" players. See ya !

YOU'RE DONE !!!!

Okay here's more comments. Well for you who knows Flea (and
if you're a bassist, I hope you do because he's superb!), you
may have notice that he is able to do a lot of improvisation
always and it always sounds so great. Well in this song,
that's what he's doing. So you can feel his style in this
song. Why don't you try to put your own style influence
when playing it too ? For example... (I didn't put
anything variation for the chorus but Flea does many)

you can play in the chorus

G-----------------------------------------------
D-----------------------------------------------
A-------------------------3--3--3-3-2-----------
E-5--5--5-5-4-1--1--1-1-2-------------3--3--3-3-

G--------------------------------------------
D--------------------------------------------
A-----------------------3--3--X-3------------
E-5--5--X-5--1--1--X-1-------------3--3--X-3-

(you can do a combination of the the above)

(I think he does that one the every last time he
plays the chorus line)

G---------------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------------
A-----------------------3--3--3-3-------3-2---
E-5--5--5-5--1--1--1-1-------------3--3-----3-

anyway... you can do so much !
you can always do some change with the riff line
What I usually do is to put some vibrato in it...

G---------------------------------
D---------------------------------
A---------------------------------
E-5--5-5--5-5-5/12~~12~12~~12~12~-

G---------------------------------
D---------------------------------
A----------------------13---------
E-5--5-5--5-5-5/12~~12~12--12~12~-

G---------------------------------
D---------------------------------
A---------------------------------
E-5--5-5--5-5-5/12~~12~12~~12~12~-

you may alternate with and without vibratoes...

and for you perfection freak... you may want to
play with high tone and your hand near the
bridge. That's how I get the closest sound
to Flea's one on my Fender Jazz.

I hope that tab was useful to you.
Anyway question ?
you can ask me at bipbipwel@yahoo.com

by the way, I may be wrong all the way but hey !
it's a try and I think it's a good one :o)

To write this tab, I first write out my own
and than I take a look at Val Nalini work and
he was close but I found something was missing
and I think this tab fixed up everything.
