Today is 12-18-98
I just got home from work at target, and i just wana document a few
things in case i may need them in the future sometime.
first, at target the customers are called guests (fuck you! guests are someone you actually
like and would be willing to allow in your home.....these people are fucking pigs and ass
holes!!!) well i work in the electronics department in the store, i am the one that most
everyone else in the department (even the team lead) call on to ask questions and/or to help
with EVERYTHING. somehow i got the reputation i guess of being the one in the whole
store that knows everything! so anytime anyone has a question or needs anything, about
the department they call me. not too bad i guess, at least i cant say i have any enemies.
okay change the subject a bit....this is the holiday season, christmas time, the busiest time
of year for most people, and especially us/me being in retail, and the department i work in
at target (camera and sound...we cary cameras, televisions, radios, walkmans, stereos,
phones, electric razors, video games (nintendo 64, nintendo gameboy, sony playstation)
and all kinds of stuff i cant think of at the moment....) well as with every business/job
where you have to deal with the public there are people who are real ass holes! well being
in the department i am in which i feel is the busiest in the store, and being the person that
everyone calls/wants to help with everything i seem to always be the one that has to deal
with these people the most. since its christmas season there has been a lot higher quantity
of these people that i have had to deal with, and when you have people like this they are
never happy unless they talk to "the manager" well thats a very loose term, in a big store
like i work in there are many "managers" every department has a manager, and sometimes
they even have a kinda assistant manager in very big departments (and even tho i so not
officially hold that title...my department even tho it should does not have one, i end up
dealing with the shit and doing the same stuff that a/the person with the title would do.) as
well as having an area managers (theres a few of those a couple for hard lines which the
pretty much everything thats not the clothing sections, and theres softlines which is the
clothing section and theres a couple of area managers for that half of the store) and then
they have all kinds of ececutive managers which are in charge of things like guest service,
stock room managers...just all kinds of these different managers....) as the saying goes
theres more chiefs in the store than there are indians.
So, lets get back to the story, since i end up having to deal with all the ass holes who come
in and are pissed that there film is not in yet, usually because they dont read the huge sign
in front of them when they drop off there film that says its only back the next day after 5pm
if you drop it off by 11am...well they drop it off at anytime of the day and expect it to be
back the next day and get pissed when its not...DUH!!!!!!!
Or people will get pissed off because we do not have an item in stock...well what can ya
do, we can check the stock room and see if we have anymore, and if we're out then we can
send to the front of store to call another store to see if they have it before they take the time
to go there... well Noooooo, people are not happy with that, they get pissed when you do
not have an item in stock, especially if it's on advertisment that week...ya cant always
make everyone happy no matter how you try. well come one people, ya cant expect an
awesome deal like a $40 dollar cd player that was advertised sunday to be there at the end
of the week and end of the ad the next saturday, especially during christmas season!!!! dont
get pissed at me because you waited till the end of the week! take your rain check and be
happy.
Again back to the point....when people are not happy because you cant do anything to help
them (basically give them everything they want free!!!) they want to talk to a manager
above you... well since i am not even a manager they talk to someone who is and in there
story i am completely a jerk, am not helpful in any way, and just didnt wana help them with
there problem. come on, theres only so much i can do thats reasonable. if were out of an
ad item i can offer a subsitute (but no you cant have the $120 cd player for $40) something
around the same price, maybe $10-$20 difference. if you just have to have that 32"
television and we havent had it in 9 weeks, i'm sorry but i cant do anything about that,
every week the department manager (or someone, like me) will go and scan the whole
department for out items which is supose to put a rush on them getting back in stock, but if
they still dont come in theres nothing i can do..
Well heres my problem...people get pissed at me because i wont give them what they want
(ya know $80 off that cd player they want) and they bitch to a mabager, and you know that
bullshit line they always use, you know the one "the customer is always right" (fuck you!)
i always end up being the bad guy and the manager bitches at me... so what am i to do?
should i just refuse to help the people at all and just let the managers help them?? tell the
people to go up front and see if a manager can do something for them?? thats ridiculous,
90% of the time the managers, or manager on duty doesnt know jack shit about anything!!
they are usually from some other department or they dont know how the shit ruins because
there always in there office or doing something else and never actually see or work in the
department.
Heres what happened to me tonight... it was a busy day as usual, a guest tried to get me to
open a game case and get a game out for him when we were busy and using the number
system to help people... i told him that we were using numbers and that he would need to
get a number at the counter to get some help, and he starts going off on me and asked to see
the manager... well just happened since were so busy (even more than usual) there
happened to be a manager there helping people out and she talked to the guest anbd told
them that he needed to wait for his number and so on...no problem... well when his
number came up, again i ended up being the one to help him and he had a pissy attitude and
started up with me about how i was anal because i wouldnt just get the game he wanted out
before...well i turned around and since the manager was still there i just asked her to ring
him up and went on my way to help the next person so i wouldnt have to get in an
arguement with this moron. sound like the right thing to do???
Evidentally not. later on that nite another manager in the store paged me over head and
asked me to call him and on the phone told me that there was a problem with me and that
my attitude he told me was a problem and that i needed to watch myself or i was going to
get fired because this was not the first time there had been complaints, and so on and so
forth and........bite me!!!!
Another bullshit thing a would say a week ago the manager of my department had told me
the day after my day off that i better watch myself and start kissing people ass because i had
had 6 complaints the day before.. i said what the hell are you talking about?? i was off
yesterday!!!!!! and his reply, yea, that makes it even worse. WHAT???!!! give me a
fucking break!!
I was talking to another employee at the beginning of my shift and saying that i was kinda
mad they had scheduled me in another section of the store instead of the electronics
department and they said that they had heard i was on restriction from the department
because i had had complaints. can you believe shit like that?!! if thats the case at least have
the balls to talk to me and tell me whats up, what am i a fucking mind reader?! are they
trying to punish me??
All stuff like this does is make me lose what little respect i have with the bozos they call
management that run the store!
Done for now, just gona let myself cool down a bit, am off for the next 2 days, maybe i
can relax and forget about that place for a while!
