Kim
Wilde, la mia artista anni ottanta preferita, nasce a Chiswick, West London,
il 18 novembre 1960. Figlia d'arte, durante il college incide parecchi
demo (grazie all'aiuto del fratello Ricki) che attirano l'attenzione di
Mickie Most, produttore della RAK Records. Nel 1981 il suo primo singolo,
Kids
in America, raggiunge il secondo posto
delle classifiche inglesi e vende 2 milioni di copie nel mondo, un ottimo
lancio per l'album di esordio, intitolato semplicemente
Kim Wilde.
Nel
1984 passa alla MCA e si impone nel panorama pop internazionale pubblicando
sette album, tra cui sono da ricordare
Another Step (1986) e
Close (1988), oltre a numerosi singoli
di successo. Fu tuttavia grazie ad un rifacimento di un brano di Diana
Ross & The Supremes, You Keep
Me Hangin'On, che nel 1986 raggiunse la
vetta delle classifiche americane.
Dal
1996 si è impegnata anche come attrice e nel settembre dello stesso
anno ha sposato l'attore Hal Fowler. Nel gennaio 1998 ha avuto il suo primo
figlio, Harry Tristan, e lo stesso mese del 2000 la secondogenita, Rose
Elisabeth. Negli ultimi anni ha sviluppato una grande passione per il giardinaggio,
di cui si occupa con iniziative, trasmissioni e documentari. Rispondendo
a un'intervista, confessa un grosso sollievo nel non dover essere più
costretta a mantenere la linea. Che bellezza.
