Rock-based sound a common thread

As it prepares for the final of the Wollongong University band competition, northern suburbs band Ventolin is ready to roll.

The four piece guitar-based rock band has been together for 18 months, and in this time have undergone an important change. After starting under the name Anomie a change was forced upon them. "We needed to change names when we discovered there was another band with the same name," drummer Jeb Taylor said.

Taylor who is joined in the band by bass player Simon Dalla Pozza, guitarist Chris Rojas and guitarist/vocalist Justin Roberts, said the music the band played came from a common thread the members shared."While we all like different types of music, the guitar based rock we play is something we all like," he said.

While having played most of its gigs at local venues , the band recently has started expanding its boundaries."We played a couple of gigs in Sydney and have a few more coming up as well as some in Canberra," Taylor said.

"Playing outside of Wollongong is kind of weird because you don't know anyone there, but after a while the people get in to it and you are right."The bands first e.p. cynically titiled Anomie, contains four songs. When pressed for a favourite,Taylor found it hard to discriminate between them."I like all the songs," he said "We are all happy with how they came out."
