Ventolin-Live Thirroul Rex Hotel +The Mark Of Cain & Nunchucka Superfly Sat Jan 2nd

Ventolin were given the honours of starting the nights proceedings. This was my first experience with the band and I am happy to say it certainly won't be my last. With a professional attitude, this quartet played confidently and proficiently, melding sounds from early to mid era Soundgarden,Kyuss(and their many offshoots) and New Zealands Shihad to create a style that pleased the ears of the early comers.Of particular note were two tunes Closing Stages and the other dealing with the topic of crashed aeroplanes. These two songs demonstrated the bands songwriting craft at its best with not a riff, beat or melody out of place. And while the rest of their set was certainly enjoyable,I would suggest the band keeps an eye on the mid sections of their tunes,as they sometimes wander onto paths that bog the song down instead of carrying it into the final ascent.
