Collective Soul Confesses To Pre-Millennium Tension
Collective Soul is currently in the midst of a spring tour with fellow Georgians the Marvelous 3, but Ed Roland and company are already eyeing some high profile gigs for later in the year.
The band has already committed to the first annual Hard Rock RockFest, which will take place in Atlanta on June 5 (see "The Offspring, Sugar Ray, Mighty Mighty Bosstones To March Through Georgia For RockFest"). Collective Soul will also be one of the few acts from Woodstock '94 to return for Woodstock III, scheduled for July 23-25 in Rome, New York (see "Woodstock Lines Up Korn, Rage, Jewel, DMX, Aerosmith, 26 Others").
In a recent interview, Collective Soul told MTV News that the band is considering playing a concert to help ring in the year 2000, but certain transportation arrangements would have to be made first.
"Well, we're not going to fly [to any show then] because of the Y2K problem," Roland said. "There will be no flying involved around the first [of next year] and the end of the year."
"So, we're trying to do something, maybe," agreed guitarist Ross Childress. "We might do something, as long as we can get there on the bus. As long as we can drive."
"Ground transportation only," Roland added.
"Please," Childress said.
"I just don't want to take my chances in an airplane 35,000 feet above the ground," Roland continued. "If something goes wrong, I'll take it down here."
"I don't think it's gonna be [that bad] with some people just blowing things up," Childress said. "But the ground transportation, that's our only concern."
