I am a bit perplexed by what you have to say on your web page. I've been called a goth, a freak, a loser, etc., yet most frequently the name-callers 'never' know who I am. Well, I am completely unsure as to what my reaction is as of yet....I am still trying to decide whether this page is a joke or not. I on one hand think that it is funny, if it is a joke because if we take ouselves too seriously we lose our sense of persp ctive. On the other, I am a little frightened as to the hatred expressed in it if it is not a joke. The names of the bands listed are almost completely wrong...and there are some really hysterical comments in your guestbook. 4AD is a record label...the carry DCD as well as several well loved bands. If you want depressing, or violent music....listen to country sometime. I live in Texas and that is one thing I am all too familiar with. You cannot throw a marshmallow without hitting a country fan. Thi really bites(sorry no pun intended). I actually listen to all types of music...I belly dance...I love books, art, singing, and sewing. I make my own jewelry, I laugh at jokes, I cry at sad movies, I love, I plan on having my own children someday, I hav no piercings or tatoo's, nor is my hair any wierd color, but I am considered a goth nonetheless. I have been accosted on the streets for my mode of dress, as well as for my faith,(I am a pagan...not the least bit connected to the gothic subculture) and et I still smile a lot, I try to rid the people around me of the fear and ignorance that they have about the things they do not understand. I try to counter hatred with a smile and a joke, I try to counter ignorance with enlightenment, I try to conquer t ars and sadness with hope and love. So if you say that all goths are to be hated feared and destroyed, then that is your personal opinion and I must respect that, but I will never agree with it. I was up late, couldn't really fall asleep, actually, and I happed to come across your lame site. You're entitled to your opinion, I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with, however, is that you form a rather hypocritical opinion of us when you know nothing about us.

How is your opinion hypocritical? You state that we're unoriginal and just follow a gothic crowd, but then you tell us that gothic men should be watching sports like the rest of the men. Would that not be following? Are your trips to Abercrombie and the L mited not in hopes of finding an article of clothing to allow you to "fit in"?

About the music. . . . The music we choose to listen to does not define who we are or what we do. So you may not like the music some of us choose to listen to, that's fine; but that does not give you an excuse to have some sort of problem with all of us.

On top of this, I wonder why you seem to defend the spookies. These are the ones who dress as they do for the attention, anyway. Sure, there are some goths that dress how they do to fit in with the goth crowd, but for the most part, goths wear black and s ch for other reasons. Ask 100 different goths why they do, you'll get 100 different answers. I, personally, enjoy wearing black NOT out of rebellion or spite toward preppies and my parents, but out of the fact that I just like the way it looks. It's comfo table, you can find it anywhere, it goes with anything, it's flattering on me, and I like its darkness; Its elegance. I would still consider myself a goth had I not chosen to wear black.

"Goth" isn't about a way to dress or do your makeup, it's a sub-culture. Some people, such as yourself, choose to define "goth" as a social label, a clique, whatever you choose to. In reality, Goth is a way to think, to look at the world. True goths on th inside know this. It's a way of looking at life and beauty as a wholeness, with its dark AND bright sides. No, dark does not mean evil. . . Dark is beautiful. A rose without thorns, in my opinion as a gothic (This is a bad example, but I suppose it gets y point across. Not all gothics define themselves by this explanation.), is not beautiful . . . Its dark side has been stripped away, its wholeness completely gone, vanished. It's a perspective, a way to feel, not a way to don doc martins, buy a vamp cape and run through the town scaring little kiddies, as you presume.

I should also point out that goth is not satanic, not evil in any way. Goth is NOT a religion. There are Christian, Agnostic, Atheist, Jewish,Buddhist, Muslim (You name it) gothics out there. Granted, there are satanic gothics, but no more satanic goths e ist than, say, satanic non-gothics.

You may ask about the Colorado shooting at Columbine. . . First off, I might say that the people who did that shooting were in fact NOT gothic. They were spooky kids, "Mansonites" (as in Marylin Manson). Not to say that Marylin Manson causes violence, peo le control their actions, not music. With that said, I'd like to state that even if these kids were to be gothics, it would be downright thickheaded and immature to classify all gothics as killers. It's takes a PERSON to pull a trigger, NOT A SUBCULTURE.

I love Johnny Cash! and I am a goth! Johnny is GOTHIC! His songs are dark, his vocals are deep and he is refered to as the "man in black", because he wears all black! he is also known to dress like a preacher and wear long trenchcoats. He is also a heavy rinker and is a freak by most standards, on top of that I think he seems like a really nice guy. I don't think you should reference him in an anti-goth page since I know tons of goths who love him (of course they are more like me, hardcore goths instead o the style boys and girls who being goth is mostly about a dress style). Johnny Cash is the original GOTH!!! and I can prove it! he has influenced more goth-industrial-gothabilly and punk groups then he ever gets credit for, everyone from Nick Cave to Min stry to the brickbats to the vandels.
