ORIGIN
Syndey University, 12th March 1999
by BUG
People came from far and
wide to see what sort of party the SRC could put on at Sydney Uni's
Wentworth Building. It was ORIGIN and as with any event organised
by the students who love their music - it was a capital event.
The music style made this a drum 'n' bass gig with six djs and two
live performances. The doors opened at 10pm and went til late (8am
I think) - I didn't stick around until the end because I had to
work the next day. Yeah, I know that's a lame excuse, but what
can I do.
The djs playing on the
night were dave edwards, matt & kayle, vaughan, nick toth, aztek
vs dtour and 4th'n'west. The two live acts were rekindle and ronin
system.
Considering how small
the gig was, they decked the place out well. The light show was
good for this size event. The djs and live acts were really, really,
really good. Two of the best were aztek and 4th'n'west. Dj aztek
was quite awesome. He's also a good friend, but I say this from
a totally unbiased position. Just ask anyone else who was there.
He was playing d'n'b with more of a hip hop influence.
As it was held in one
of the university bars the drinks were cheap. Besides the one minor
power failure at the main decks, the performance was flawless.
This was the best of d'n'b and a must for all d'n'b enthusiasts.
You may have missed out this year, but watch out for performances
by these djs around the place - especially aztek...
Pretty much once the bar
closed people started to leave and probably head for the city or
wherever. The crowd probably peaked at around the 200ish mark.
Summary:- Thankfully there
were no glowsticks (...he says smiling at spudlee...)
- This event rates!!!
- Aztek (... enough said...)
PS. I would have liked
a body search from the chicks at the door.
PPS. I'd like to know why a couple rocked up dressed as though
they just can from a formal. They didn't quite fit in, but each to their
own I guess...
