Triple J's Turn Up Your
Radio Tour has featured many great bands in the past, and this year
is no exception. Kiwis Weta kicked off the show with a short but
lively set which was highlighted by their Natural Compression EP.
Similar style to Shihad, Let it Go is a top song. Nitocris were
next and these girls were fantastic. While they battled their way
through problems with echo and broken strings, their set was great
from start to finish, highlighted by the single Dark Side. Jess's
lead guitar work was great. She is very talented, and an incredibly
attractive girl. But the best band of the tour was Motor Ace. They
came out dressed very convincingly as woman. Patrick explained it
was for a video shoot this afternoon and did'nt have time to change,
but they seemed to be enjoying it. Their set was full of energy,
closing with Chairman of The Board. Pre Shrunk were very different
to the other three band. Its amazing how two basses and a drummer
can have such a full sound, but whilst I thought their set dragged
on a bit (75 minutes in all), it certainly was funky, and they were
the crowd pleaser of the tour. Overall, it was an exceptional night,
and the bands complemented each other nicely. All of these bands
are well worth seeing and all have great new EP's out now.
