Regurgitator, Even, Tadpole & Weta
Caladonean Hall, Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND, 2 October 1999.
by Scottie Willson

The night started with Tadpole coming out and playing most of their songs that they have written over their 10 year existence. Very loud and crazy but not a lot of people were really moshing to it. They played "For Me" very well, and a lot of their new stuff sounded nice. Then they played "Blind" which got a loud reception. They kept talking about playing more songs but then the organizers told them to get off the stage.

Tadpole were followed by Australian band Even. A lot of their material was often the same and not very interesting. I was looking forward to seeing them as i had heard nothing but good reports about their music but overall i was disappointed. They reminded me of Beattles take offs "Oasis" but not quite as bad.

Weta followed with some huge sounds to a very positive fan reaction, playing songs from their EP, a song worth mentioning was the way they played "Let It Go" which sounded soooooooooooooooo good. they followed it up with some huge songs with a lot of beat, but nothing sounded quite as good as "Got the Ju" which just went off. They then exited the stage and joined the crowd.

Half an hour later after much technical delay Regurgitator came out to a huge reception and animated TV stuff. They started with the song that is hidden on their ART album, (don't know the name of it, lasts for about 1 and half minutes), followed by "I sucked a lot of cock to get where I am" which was then nicely complemented by "I will Lick your Asshole."

At about this time The Rabbit (Shane Rudken) looked stoned off his ass, and was grabbing at the lights which were on him.

This was soon followed by songs such as "Black Bugs", "Happines (rotting my brains), "Freshmint", a jazzed up version of "Polyester Girl", "I like your old stuff better than your new stuff", "I love Tommy Mottolla", and "I Wanna be a Nudist" (which had a funky video going behing it) and i can't remember if they played "Strange Human Being" or not.

Quan had broken a string which then welcomed the debut of a song with the full vocals of Ben Ely "Virtual Life" It was a very nice song, and lasted a very long time and I liked it especially. The Rabbit was playing some sort of flute thing.

This was followed by a lot of their old stuff which I don't know the names of as I do not have Tu-Plang. But one notibly song was "I like repetitive music" which I though was the song of the night. They bought in a guitarist for the song as Quan had to concentrate on the lyrics. The video going for this song was great and the song just kicked some ass. They also played "Ghost".

This part was a confusing one, The pit was chanting "Water" and then they played "!*(The song formerly known as)" with a nice little high pitched "Thank you Mr. DJ.....," then they left the stage, suddenly everyone turned around and chanted 'wanker' to the DJ's or whatever you call the people who operate the lights and shit. Then all the lights came on and it looked as though everyone was about to leave then about 4-5 minutes after the gurge' had left the stage the came back out and played a few songs which I cannot remember but they finished with "Modern Life."

Overall I would give the concert a 10000 out of 10 and I would say it was well worth the $0 I paid to see them.

Song(s) of the Night: I like repetitive music, Got the Ju, I wanna be a nudist.

Band of the night: The Gurge' who else!?

Thats all thanks for reading
yours truley
