Bodyjar & 28 Days
as well as local bands Juggernaught & Psychotic

Greenhouse Tavern, Coffs Harbour, NSW
Tuesday 23 November 1999

Introduction & General Whinge

To start off with, I'd like to comment on the extremely poor organisation on behalf of the management (& security?) at the Greenhouse Tavern. I rang up the day before and was told it was $18, and that it was all ages, but people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. I was quite specific about making sure those details were correct over the phone.

I failed to find anybody at school crazy enough to go out on a weeknight like that, or to spend that much money. At the last minute I received a pleasing phone call from my friend Andrew. So off we went.

When we got there we were just hoping to find somebody over 18 to get us in. There were an awful lot of 16 & 17 year olds in our position at the door - trying to get in. The security guards decide not to let any of us in though. They would only let under 18's in if they were accompanied by somebody over 30! And the 30+ year old could get in a maximum of 5 people. Is this legal? I was under the impression that the legal age, and the age you are considered an adult is 18? Anybody know anything about these legalities?

Anyway, luckily we found two mature ladies who were going in and asked them "if they could be our mummies" as they put it. hehe. They were very nice and let us in without any problems. Thanks ladies!!! One pleasing thing though (which shows even more poor organisation on behalf of the management) - tickets were only $8! :-) Now, on with the review...

The Review

First band of the night were a local Coffs Harbour band called Psychotic. I didn't really get much of a listen to them though because it took so long to get through the door.

Next on stage were another local band called Juggernaught. A few people in the Coffs Harbour area seem to have heard of this band. They weren't too bad either. I feel sorry for most of their set because everybody was sitting down. Nobody really gave them much of a clap either. Poor guys! The lead singer (who was trippin hard on something!) kept calling us pussies and telling us to get up, and being sarcastic about our clapping, etc. LOL. Anyway, they had about two or three people "moshing" or jumping around at one stage... Not exactly a rockin show. Anyway people seemed to start appreciating them during their last few songs, by giving them a good clap and cheer, which was good.

Finally, just after 10 o'clock, 28 Days took to the stage. Most people would have heard this band on triple j with their excellent songs - "Kool" and "La Tune". 28d put on an excellent show! Very loud too! Especially when it is enclosed in such a small space, it seems quite a lot louder than any of the stages at Big Day Out, or Homebake, etc. My only complaint was that the vocals didn't come out too clear, but I think I'm just being picky there. The mosh pit really got going quickly when 28 Days started playing too... One of their first songs was of course "Kool", and they also played "La Tune" closer to the end. I can't name any of the other songs they played, but I can tell you that they were good! I definately recommend anybody catch 28 Days whenever they can - they're great guys! After the show, I got the singer to sign my shorts (had nothing else to sign) - which is kinda stupid coz it's probably just gonna come off in the wash, but oh well.

After a little bit of a wait, just after 11, Bodyjar came on. The moment we'd all been waiting for! I can't remember all the songs they played, but I can remember that they played "Hazy shade of winter" which proved to be very popular! They also played one of my personal favourites, the song that really made me a fan, "Remote Controller". The mosh pit was going crazy the whole time. It was sort of a new experience for me, because I'd never been to a pub-gig before - only to a few big festivals. The main mosh pit was mainly filled with 19-20+ year old guys, most of which who were probably quite pissed by that stage in the night! Very dangerous stuff. I came out with a few bruises, but nothing too bad. But I'll tell you what - it was very hot! I came out extremely hot and sweaty. All over it was a great night! You don't realise how many good looking chicks there are in Coffs Harbour normally! LOL :)

After the show we drove round and got something to eat, and then cruised over to where the after party was meant to be, at the Sanctuary Resort. There were a couple of other people there waiting for it to happen, but none of the guys from 28 Days or anything yet, so we thought we'd better get home seeming as it was quickly approaching 1 am.
