Arriving at the venue
at about 10:30pm (with The Superjesus due on in 1/2 an hours time),
I found out that the biggest cheers of the night so far had come
when the local supports, F.U.L.L and Naked Eye, had yelled out 'You
guys want The Superjesus?' This was a clear indication that the
crowd were extremely hyped up to see the great band live again after
almost a year absence from the stage.
When they came out, there
was a quick hello from Sarah before they launched into Saturation.
The band got into it right from the beginning, and the crowd were
full of energy and enthusiasm during the entire set. I have to say
that 18+ shows kick arse over all ages, the crowd are much more
friendly and the good vibes from both the band and crowd seemed
to be non-stop throughout the set (much like all ages shows but
so much better.) Sarah's voice was great as always and seeing/hearing
Stu doing back up vocals during a couple of the songs was a highlight.
The great thing about the band's new material, was that the crowd
responded really well to it even though it was so fresh to their
ears. Along with the rockin new material, the old favourites, especially
Down Again, brought the house down. My personal favourites (of the
new stuff) would have to be Letter to the Peacecore and Everybody
Calls Me Lonely (also a favourite of the band) which will no doubt
be received really well by current fans and ensure they convert
a lot of new ones. The best older songs were definitely Everything
Turns and Saturation. The Superjesus put on one hell of a show,
probably one of the best I've seen of theirs in the 3 years i've
been going to their gigs and this was their FIRST show in 10 months!
Simply a brilliant band, can't wait for the next album.
