ALEX LLOYD &
AUGIE MARCH
HiFi Bar, Melbourne
3 December 1999
by Jaymin
The first time i saw Alex
Lloyd play live was at Revolver in Melbourne which is a smallish
little live band venue. At this stage, Black the Sun had just been
released and not many people had any idea who this guy was. He came
on stage and sat on a seat and just played through his album.
On this occasion, it was
a different story. In front of a packed out HiFi Bar he simply blew
most of the audience away. His set included every song off Black
the Sun except Backseat Clause (to my immense disappointment) It
also included an attempt at a Mother Hubbard classic, 'River'. He
struggled with it. Everyone Run and Swim was also played during
the main set which had become a fave encore song for him.
Pure and simply.....the
man is awesome. And his fan base has become huge with at least a
eighty thousand people crammed into the hifi bar. (note: this may
be an exaggeration! lol)
I only managed to catch
about half of Augie March's set and they were better than i expected.
Asleep in Perfection was performed exceptionally well.
