I must say, it was a
most fantastic night! Well worth the absolutely no money I paid
to get in! haha, no, seriously, it was unreal! Not being of legal
age I had to find an alternative way in, which thanks to some
very kind-hearted people was easier than I thought. :-)
I was lucky enough to
meet all of the Area 7 guys. They're all legends - really nice
guys. Met Venessa from Jebediah too - one cool chick. And I had
a brief encounter with the Get Up Kids and the a couple of the
other Jeb guys. And I even got my CDs signed - something to take
home with me...
I didn't see all of
the Get Up Kids, but I'd just like to put in a plug for these
guys saying they are way-underrated! You may hear their new single
on triple j lately - 'Holiday' - I think it is called... Most
people seem to have hardly even heard the Get Up Kids, but I think
they're awesome....
But even more awesome,
Area 7. I was there in the mosh pit for the whole A7 and Jeb shows...
And I must comment on the mosh pit too - it was psycho! Much bigger
than any non-festival mosh pit I've ever seen before... Lots of
crowd surfing of which I'll tell you about later...
Area 7 played most of
the songs off their album - all the songs you'd remember from
triple j - No Logic, Start Making Sense, Second Class Citizen
(with a bit of audience participation, of which my brother James
is proud to be a part of yelling out "Second Class Citizen" into
Stevo's mic.) They continued playing all their other great catchy
songs and finished off with Bitter Words. Sorry I can't remember
much of the setlist, but I'm writing this nearly two weeks after
the show because I had exams last week. :-(
Next, the headlining
act, Jebediah. They opened with their favourite opening number,
Lino. Fantastic song. They played all their favourites including
Animal, Teflon, Harpoon, Benedict, Star Machine, Feet Touch The
Ground, Leaving Home, and I then came on for an encore which I'm
pretty sure was Military Strongmen and then going into Invaders
when some poor old sod had a bit of a mishap while crowd-surfing
and hit his head pretty hard when he went over the top of the
crowd into the stage, from what I can gather (I couldn't really
see from where I was but heard a bit of a thud over the loud music).
Jebediah stopped playing and went to see if they could aid the
guy - seeming as I'm pretty sure that was their last song anyway,
they decided to call it quits there before anybody else carcked
it...
After the show, back
outside to meet the band again :). I realised later that I shouldn't
have done this, as I was literally dripping wet from the mosh-pit
and it was a fairly cool night and spitting with rain a little
so standing out there too long wasn't too good coz next week I
had a cold all exam week - poo!
All three bands come
highly recommended to anybody into ska and punk, and they all
put on supremely good shows! Get out and see 'em - oh and Area
7's new album is of course out now! They definately enspired me
to get that!
