Interview with Martin Brzobohaty

-How long does Shindy prod. exist?

I think that it is from august 1995, so until now it is about 3,5 years. But before, I was active in some other firms, so I could say that it is from 1990...

-What was the first thing that you have released?

It was a tape of a band called COLPORRHAPHIA, which was in those times playing a technical thrash/death. They have another tape today & I think that they also have their own CD... Then, there were other titles, but you can find them in my catalogue.

-Adamov looks like a small village/town...how did you get to this kind of music there?

In Adamov live about 6000 people, but during day it is at least 15 000, haha. To understand, there is a big factory here & many people travel to work there.

I'd say, that it doesn't depends, where are you from. You have just to find a hobby in music (or something else) , which can give something to you, or satisfy yourself. You can easily get to music- if you don't have any friends, who are listening to this kind of music, you can just visit some concerts or use the wonderful services of our post...

-Do you go to seek for mushrooms sometimes?

I DON'T EAT mushrooms at all. But when I was young, I liked it. I have found a genial technique of seeking for mushrooms. You need a forrest & a bicycle. You take the bicycle & go through the forrest. You are seeking around the paths, because it is logic, that people, who are seeking for mushrooms are going through the forrest & not around the paths. Therefore are mushrooms growing mostly around the paths.

And about those "mushrooms"...I'm not a fan of any drugs. Sometimes I drink alcohol & not very often tein or kofein (in tea & coffee) .

-Haven't you ever wanted to found your own group? Do you play some instruments?

Yes I wanted, but I don't have the natural talent. Therefore I will never play in any serious band.

I have nearly forgotten, that for a while I was playing in a funny band called YBCA, where I was making some sounds & playing on a mouth-organ! But everything is in the past today.

-What's your favourite style/group...do you listen only to Death, Grind, Crust, Noise or Black?

Basically, I'm very narrow, mainly I'm listening to death/doom/black/grind. Noise & crust only sometimes. And sometimes I listen to heavy or speed, I mean the classics.

Simply, I'd say that my favourite styles are those, where I can hear some melodies & brutallity. I don't want to say any names, because I may forget something.

-Do you like more Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone?

I didn't have a relationship with them, so I'd say that I like them both. Maybe you could tell me, which one is better.

-Don't you ever want to look at the bands, when you are standing outside & selling some stuff on the concerts?

But of course!!! You have asked like if I don't do anything else on the concerts & that's not true. I really like to look at a band, which I haven't seen yet, or which I like. The problem is, that when I'm on 1-2 shows per weekend, there is not so much bands, that interest me so much, that I'd always like to see their show until the end of it. And sometimes I'm selling the stuff right in the hall, so I can see the whole concert.

-How do you get on with other labels like Epidemie, Immortal Souls or Bizzare Leprous,...etc.?

I was thinking, that if am I going to answer your question about everyone who did you mention. But I'd rather not, because it wouldn't be very polite to some people & why should I spoil my mood, with some unsolved problems, that are lasting months or years???

Therefore I will answer globally. With the labels, that you have mentioned, it is good, altough sometimes it is worse. Generally, I'm trying to know the guy from the label & I'm trying to act like he does it. So, sometimes the relationship is not very OK, but mainly it is good. Everybody should act as his conscience let him, or like he wants others to treat him.

-What was the most succesful album in the history of Shindy Prod.?

Easy question & easy answer! It is positively DEPRESY!!! When I look at promotion, reviews, ,sales...everything shows, that Depresy is the most successful thing, that I have ever released. I'm sure, that their new album, which will be out on summer '99, will stabilize their position!

-What does "Shindy" mean?

It would be better, if you'd just look in a dictionary... But, when you're asking, it is a informal expression in english, that means noise, sound, chaos. I think that it fits to the bands that I'm releasing (of course there are some exceptions) .

-What do you think...where is mankind heading?

May I be vulgar?? To ass. I really don't see it very positive. If your question was meant globally, then we are heading to our extinction. Devastation of nature & enviroment, arming, wars, overpopullation... And if you meant it regionally, like our two countries (Czech rep. & Slovakia) , then I think that it is the same, because our economical situation is getting worse, relationship among people... everything is getting worse. I don't think, that everything will be OK, only because of the new millenium. Everybody should start with himself.

-What was the most exotic country, that you have gotten a order from?

I think Singapore or Phillipines. But I'm happy about every letter or e-mail, that I get & it doesn't have to be only a order. I like to write with people about something. Therefore I'd be also happy, if I'd get a letter or e-mail from Slovakia, altough I'm communicating with some interesting people from there. -Ako dlho uz existuje Shindy prod.?

Pokud me pamet neklame, tak nekdy od srpna (augusta) 1995, takze zhruba 3,5 roku. Pred tim jsem vsak byl aktivni v ruznych jinych firmach, dalo by se rict, ze uz od roku 1990…

-Ktoru vec si vydal ako uplne prvu?

Byla to kazeta kapely COLPORRHAPHIA, ktera v te dobe hrala takovy technicky thrash/death. V soucasnosti maji na konte jiz dalsi kazetu a mam takovy dojem, ze i vlastni CD… Pak nasledovaly dalsi tituly, o kterych se muze kazdy dozvedet v mem katalogu.

-Adamov vyzera ako dost mala dedina/mestecko...ako si sa tam dostal k takemuto druhu hudby?

V Adamove zije cca 6000 lidi, ale pres den snad 15000, haha. Abys rozumel, je tu velka fabrika a dojizdi sem za zamestnanim opravdu hodne lidi.

Rekl bych, ze nezalezi na tom, z jak velkeho mesta pochazis. Dulezite je najit zalibu v muzice (nebo jinem konicku), ktery Ti neco da, nejakym zpusobem Te uspokoji. Dostat se k muzice muzes velmi snadno - pokud nemas ve svem okoli zname, kteri poslouchaji tento druh muziky, tak stacÌ obcas zajit na koncert nebo vyuzit sluzeb nasi skvele posty…

-Chodievas niekedy na hriby?

Ja NEJIM houby. Vseobecne houby nekonzumuji, ale v mladi jsem je rad sbiral. Objevil jsem dokonalou techniku sberu hub. Potrebujes k tomu les a horke kolo. Vezmes kolo a jedes po lese. Sbiras houby, ktere rostou okolo cesty, protoze je logicke, ze lidi, kteri sbiraji houby, chodi po lese a ne po cestach. Proto okolo cest toho roste nejvic.

No a ohledne "houbicek"…nejsem priznivec zadnych omamnych latek. Obcas poziju alkohol a velmi zridka i tein a kofein (obsazeny v caji nebo kave).

-Nemal si niekedy chut zalozit si vlastnu kapelu? Hras na nejaky hudobny nastroj?

Ano, chut jsem mel, ale nemam vlohy ani hudebni hluch. Proto zrejme nikdy nebudu ucinkovat v zadne seriozni kapele.

Malem bych zapomnel, ze jsem docasne ucinkoval v recesisticko-legracni kapele YBCA, kde jsem loudil ruzne zvuky a dokonce i hral na foukaci harmoniku! Ale to vse uz je minulost.

-Aku hudbu/skupinu mas najradsej...pocuvas iba Death, Grind, Crust, Noise, alebo Black?

V podstate jsem velmi omezeny, posloucham prevazne death/doom/black/grind. Noise a crust jen velmi zridka. Obcas si rad poslechnu i nejaky ten heavy nebo speed, mam tim na mysli klasiky.

Vseobecne by se dalo rict, ze mezi me oblibene styly patri ty, kde je alespon kousek melodie a brutality. Zamerne nechci jmenovat zadne konkretni kapely, abych na nikoho nezapomnel…

-Mas radsej Arnolda Schwarzenegra, alebo Sylvestra Stalloneho?

Zatim jsem nemel intimni styk ani s jednim z nich, takze bych rekl, ze je mam rad oba stejne. Muzes mi poradit, ktery z nich je lepsi?

-Nemas niekedy chut pozriet sa na kapely, ked stojis vonku a predavas nosice pocas koncertov?

Ale samozrejme!!! Tys tu otazku polozil tak, ze nedelam na koncerte nic jineho, coz samozrejme neni pravda. Rad se podivam na kapelu, kterou jsem jeste nevidel nebo ktera se mi libi. Problem je, ze kdyz jsem na 1-2 akcich kazdy vikend, tak uz neni tolik kapel, ktere me zaujmou natolik, abych je sledoval pokazde nebo cele jejich vystoupeni. Nezridka kdy taky prodavam primo v salu, takze vidim cely koncert.

-Ako vychadzas s inymi labelmi ako Epidemie,Immortal Souls,Bizzare Leprous,...atd.?

Premyslim, jestli mam odpovedet zcela konkretne a vyjadrit se ke kazdemu, ktereho jsi uvedl. Asi to ale neudelam, protoze jednak by to nebylo vuci urcitym osobam taktni a navic, proc si kazit naladu vytahovanim spinavosti a nevyrizenych veci, ktere se tahnou uz nekolik mesicu nebo let??

Proto odpovim jen globalne. S vetsinou Tebou jmenovanych vychazim v pohode, i kdyz obcas to zaskripe. Vseobecne se da rict, ze se snazim poznat toho konkretniho protagonistu labelu a snazim se k nemu chovat tak, jak se chova on ke mne. Takze obcas vztahy nejsou uplne idealne, ale v drtive vetsine je nase spoluprace prospesna. Ostatne, kazdy by se mel chovat k ostatnim podle sveho svedomi a taky tak, jak chce, aby se oni chovali k nemu.

-Ktora vec je najuspesnejsim nosicom v historii Shindy prod.?

Jenoducha otazka a jednoducha odpoved! Jednoznacne DEPRESY!!! At uz se podivam na promotion, recenze, ohlasy, prodejnost…zkratka vse jednoznacne ukazuje na to, ze DEPRESY jsou nejuspesnejsi veci, kterou jsem vydal. Pevne verim, ze jejich nove album, ktere vyjde do leta '99 jeste vice upevni jejich pozici!

-Co to vlastne znamena "Shindy"?

Asi by bylo nejlepsi, kdyby ses obtezoval a podival se do slovniku… Ale kdyz uz se ptas, tak jde o hovorovy vyraz v anglictine, ktery znamena kraval, ramus, chaos. Myslim, ze se to hodi k produkci kapel, kterÈ vydavam (i kdyz vyjimky se najdou).

-Co myslis...kam speje ludstvo?

Muzu byt vulgarni?? Do prdele. Opravdu to nevidim ruzove. Pokud Tvoje otazka byla myslena globalne, tak spejeme k zahube. Devastace prirody a zivotniho prostredi, zbrojeni, valky, premnozena populace… Pokud jsi to myslel regionalne, tj. dejme tomu v ramci nasich dvou republik, pak si myslim, ze spejeme tamtez, protoze ekonomicka situace se stale zhorsuje, mezilidske vztahy…vsechno je stale horsi. Neverim tomu, ze se to zmeni jenom na zaklade toho, ze se prehoupne tisicileti. Je potreba, aby kazdy zacal sam u sebe.

-Ktora bola najexotickejsia krajina, z ktorej si dostal objednÀvku na nejaky tovar?

Myslim, ze Singapur nebo Filipiny. V podstate mam radost z kazdeho dopisu nebo mailu, ktery dostanu a nemusi to byt zakonite objednavka. Rad si dopisuji a komunikuji s lidmi, se kterymi je o cem debatovat. Proto budu jen rad, pokud se mi nekdo ozve i ze Slovenska, i kdyz odtud uz s par zajimavymi lidmi komunikuji.
