After having an unbelievable Euro96 with the Czech Republic, Berger caught the eye of Roy Evans,
the ex-manager. He made his Anfield debut on 7th September that year, against Southampton. His impact
was alomost immediate, and by his second game, he had already scored two goals. His initial goal spree
and excellent form was followed by an archilles injury. Eventually, Berger failed to capitalize on his
great start and his form took a dip. Under Gerard Houllier, Berger has become a more complete player
and during the 98/99 season he held a regular place and was scoring more often and he was easily one of
the more consistent players.
His good form has continued this season and he has played regularly, while putting up convincing
performances. The Czech star has also scored a number of important goals. |
