Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band, Cleveland Ohio 12 July 2000 |

Wow!!! KWS was fantastic! Definitely in my top five concerts I've ever seen. Kenny was so high energy the entire time. He had a power pack on his back for his guitar, so he was able to move around the stage without being hindered. He moved so well and frequently that everyone got a chance to watch him play. Of course, I stood on the side he predominantly played on. There were two guys in front of me who kept pointing at him every time he was by us - which was annoying at times. It might have bothered Kenny too. Noah was just as good as well. It seemed like he knew the exact moment to turn on the crowd. At one quieter moment in the show he exclaimed "C'mon people! This is a rock-n-roll show. Get your hands up!" It's like he knew it was time to get everyone fired up. His vocals sounded excellent especially on True Lies, Slow Ride, and Blue on Black. True lies was the third song of the night, which pleased me since it's one of my favorite tunes on Trouble Is. Noah chopped his hair down. I almost didn't recognize him for a second. The show was two hours long. The last song they did was Voodoo Child. Kenny's fret work was amazing... quiet amazing since he's only 23. A lot of the old time blues guitarists have nothing but praise for Kenny. The show's high energy kept me up too since I was so tired. Kenny's bass player kind of looked like he once tried out for Duran Duran back in the eighties, but he backed the band up quite nicely. I was impressed with the drummer too. Everyone called him freight train. He had the build of a football linebacker, so it was amazing how he moved his arms all around to play. |
