2001
September 13th
"I Knew I Loved You" has been on the AC chart for 100 straight weeks as of September 8, 2001 but they have a little way to go before IKILY will beat "Truly, Madly, Deeply's" record.
"Truly, Madly, Deeply" broke the previous record when they hit 106 weeks, but they went on to stay on the chart for several weeks after that. On the Billboard AC Charts, dated May 27, 2000 "Truly Madly Deeply", the record-breaking single was retired from the Monitor/Billboard Adult Contemporary Airplay Chart after an unprecedented 123 weeks, longer than any single by any artist or group in the history of the chart.
So IKILY might become the "second" longest running song on the AC chart when it reaches 106 weeks, but it needs to stay on the chart for 123 weeks to match Truly's record. Aren't our guys amazing, or what?? :)

According to this article, DANIEL JONES is going to be at the Australian APRA Awards on May 28th, 2001. Read on for more information:

AUSTRALIAN SONGWRITING ICONS TO APPEAR AT APRA MUSIC AWARDS
Two of APRA's most eminent songwriting members will be attending the 2001 APRA Music Awards on Monday May 28th to join in celebrations for the organisation's 75th anniversary.
Harry Vanda and Daniel Jones are both writers from top songwriting duos that have brought international acclaim to Australian music over several decades.
Harry Vanda, one half of what is arguably Australia's most successful songwriting duo of all time, Vanda and Young, will be present on Awards night to congratulate composers and songwriters whose achievements in the year 2000 are worthy of acclaim. He will also find out, along with his songwriting peers, which songs have made the list of APRA's Ten Best Australian Songs.
The backbone of 1960s group The Easybeats, Harry Vanda and George Young penned such hits as "Friday on My Mind" and "Good Times." In the 1970s they wrote chart-topping songs such as the 11-minute opus "Evie" for Stevie Wright as well as "Yesterday's Hero" and "Love is in the Air" for John Paul Young (along with JPY's other major hits). Their songs were recorded by William Shakespeare, Cheetah, Mark Williams and many international artists, and their production talents masterminded the early careers of AC/DC, The Angels and Rose Tattoo. Vanda and Young also had major hits in the 1970s with their own alter ego, Flash & The Pan.
Vanda and Young's numerous music industry awards include the coveted Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music, presented to them by APRA in 1995. While Harry lives in Sydney and George now resides in London, the two still write together regularly.
Daniel Jones, half of the hottest duo in the world today, Savage Garden, will be on hand to present the APRA Songwriter of the Year Award for 2001. Daniel and his writing and performing partner Darren Hayes were themselves recipients of the APRA Songwriter of the Year award twice - in 1998 and 2000.
Since an extensive world tour in 2000, Savage Garden has been taking a break to work on individual projects. Daniel Jones has been busy with his new production company, Meridien Musik, producing other artists. His appearance at the 2001 APRA Music Awards will be a rare public appearance for this year.
The 2001 APRA Music Awards will be presented on Monday 28 May 2001 at the Randwick Pavilion, AJC Convention Centre, Randwick Racecourse in Sydney.

December 25th:
Last week, on the 17th of December, Savage Garden had their final concert from the Affirmation World Tour in Cape Town, South Africa. It has been an amazing year with great success on stages all over the world for the guys.
But now it will take quite a while before we hear of a new Savage Garden record...They don't know when they'll be back in the public eye as a band, let alone us. At least we'll be hearing about Darren's solo album soon especially since there are rumours he's got a solo record deal from Sony Music/Columbia! All the luck in the world to him! But I'm sure he'll do more than excellent!
Until then, Savage Garden's Affirmation album is still in the charts all over the world and doing quite well, in fact: on this week's ARIA Top 50 Albums Chart it is sandwiched between Madonna and Ricky Martin at no. 20 climbing up 4 places since last week.
The singles are doing well, too: "Chained To You" continues to hold on at #4 on the Australian Chart, where it has been for several weeks now. Moreover, "Hold Me".....
News about the two official Savage Garden websites, through the very words of Darren and Daniel:
"The bbs's will remain open in order that all fans may continue to communicate. We would very much like to thank all our fans for their continued support. The last four years would not have been possible without the greatest fans in the world!!! Here's wishing you and your families a happy holiday season.
We look forward to speaking again in the New Year.
Best wishes,
Darren and Daniel"
(message displayed at the top of the page on the Sony fansite and BBS)

The Savage Garden stamp is one of 10 in a series of stamps to be released by the Australia Post to celebrate Australian rock and pop music from the late 70's until the present day. How cool is that! Savage Garden stamps! :)
The re-packaged double Affirmation is out in the Australian stores. It contains the Affirmation album and a bonus 11 track LIVE disc including the following songs recorded at the band's Brisbane concerts on 20th and 21st of May, 2000 as part of the Affirmation World Tour:

Walter Afanasieff won Producer of the Year at the Grammies for his work on "The Animal Song" and more. Quote Darren: "It's funny, today I'm looking at this 10 page TRIBUTE to Walter in Billboard Magazine for all his contributions to music. It makes me feel very lucky to be working with him. Yet he will honestly tell you that the day he found out he was producing our album, he let out a quiet scream and had to get on the phone and tell a few people." (the Fanzine)
Darren was quoted this week in a Los Angeles Times article about the lack of quality music in the industry nowadays. Here's his part of the article:
Even artists enjoying tremendous success today sense a decline in pop music that matters or stands the test of time. One of them is singer Darren Hayes of Savage Garden, an Australian pure pop duo that has sold about 14 million albums world-wide and scored its most recent No.1 U.S. single earlier this month with "I Knew I Loved You".
"I've gone through a phase of late where I'm very frustrated with the
scene today because it's lacking in substance and sincerity," Hayes says. "I don't know that a lot of the music today will be remembered, and as a songwriter that really saddens me...I love music, and when I see something like Lou Bega's 'Mambo No. 5' at the top of the charts, I get frustrated. I ask, 'Why?' And I keep waiting for it to get better."
"I Knew I Loved You" returns to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, bumping Mariah Carey's "Thank God I Found You"!
The 12th issue of the Official Savage Garden Fanzine is being sent these days. It features a poster with two great looking guys :), an interview with Jim Sabey (director of international marketing for Columbia Records), an excerpt of Darren's MSN chat with the fans from 7th October '99, great competitions and many more! Welcome 2000 issue!

"I Knew I Loved You" stays at its #2 spot for the second week on the Billboard charts and "Affirmation" falls back 1 spot to #23. However, the album is now 2 x platinum in the U.S.A.
Meanwhile, it has moved up from #17 to #9 this week in the Australian music charts.
"I Knew I Loved You" unfortunately ends its run at #1 on the Billboard charts, dropping back to #2 this week. The album, meanwhile, has also dropped back 2 places to #22.
The debut album, "Savage Garden", is still making miracles as it has been certified 6 x platinum!
Moreover, "I Knew I Loved You" has been certified gold in the U.S.A. Also, it is #1 in the Romanian Bravo charts, but unfortunately it dropped back in the European charts and is now #32.
Finally, The Hit Records case brought against Savage Garden has been indefinitely postponed as the judge thought it was flimsy at best. I completely agree!
"Truly Madly Deeply" has just hit another record! It has been on the Adult Contemporary Chart (Billboard) for 106 weeks, making it the longest any song has stayed on that chart in the entire history of the
chart!
"I Knew I Loved You" remains at the top of the Billboard charts, following the example of 1998's award winning "Truly Madly Deeply".
This gives a boost to "Affirmation" the album, moving it up to #15 in the same chart.
The new Australian single, "Affirmation", has been played in length in a scene from the hit teen soap, "Dawson's Creek", making it the third
Savage Garden song to be used on the show.
Aren't these some wonderful pieces of news? Great times are coming in the Savage Garden camp! Times we've all been waiting for! :)
Savage Garden's "I Knew I Loved You" is #1 in the Billboard chart 100!! Finally, their well-deserved place! Justice has been made! :)
Now comes the bad news: Darren has been sick with a horrible flu this past week. It manifested pretty badly but now he's recovering bit by bit. Let's all hope he'll be in perfect health in no time! Good luck, Darren!
Also, Savage Garden have been in court these past two weeks. The case is about a contract for manager with Redfurn's leader. Their contract expired in 1994 but the latter claims he didn't know what the deal said. The case will continue this week.
Again, all the luck in the world, Daniel and Darren!
Darren dyed his hair! It is now blond, a dark blond! Isn't that one piece of news?!
"I Knew I Loved You" is #1 on VH1's Top Ten Countdown and it jumped two places on the Billboard 100 and is now #2! !
Walter Afanasieff, the non-Savage man behind "Affirmation", is Grammy-nominated for Producer of the Year for "The Animal Song" (among others)!
The "I Knew I Loved You" single was released in U.S.A. The single feautures a remix called the "Mini-Me Remix" made by Daniel alone.
"Affirmation", the next single to be
released in Australia, has now a video which was played on the night of
New Year's Eve in Sydney for the first time. Neither Darren or Daniel
appear in this video.
