Legendary Tales.jpg Rhapsody - Legendary Tales
Rhapsody was founded as Thundercross in 1993. They have released two demos ('Land Of Immortals' and 'Eternal Glory'). The cover of this debut-album gives away the style of the text of Rhapsody: Medieval tales of knights and dragons and the conquer between good and evil. Musically 'Legendary Tales' is a master-piece: Epic, theatral, classical, speed and progressive metal mixed with classical parts influenced by Paganini, Bach and Vivaldi. There are no samples on this album: All classical parts and choirs are real. The CD begins with an intro followed by 'Warrior Of Ice' which is a teriffic song. The rest of 'Legendary Tales' is as good as the begin. Vocalist Fabio Leone (ex-Labÿrinth) is very good and the fantastic Malmsteen-like guitar-playing of Luca Turilli is a relief to hear. Compared with Rhapsody, the happy-metal of Helloween has gone to pot.
This CD is produced by Sascha Peath (Angra, Heavens Gate). He also took the bass-part, because Rhapsody currently has no bass-player.

empty tremorEmpty Tremor - Apocolokyntosys
WOW!, What a great CD!! These 6 Italian boys (avarage 16 years old) can play music. 'Apocolokyntosys' is a varied CD with some Dream Theater influences. The structure of the songs is complex and good. The instrument playing too. The vocalist has one less good point: his pronunciation is bad. He can sing very well, but I can't hear what he says. The music has very dominant keys and the drummer is very happy with his double-bass drums (and he can play them very well. There are many drummers who use the double bass to strike, while they can't play it very well).
This is a tip for everyone. Every song is a masterpiece. Empty Tremor belongs for me in the category with Angra, Dream theater, Shadow Gallery, Vanden Plas and Symphony X.

Imaginations From The Other Side,
Somewhere Far Beyond

Blind Guardian is one of the biggest speed/prog. bands in the world. With their magnificent choruses, which will be stuck in your head, typical sounds

somewhere.jpg and lyrics about dwarfs and fairies, influenced by J.R.R.Tolkien, Blind Guardian beats every album again with a new one. Imaginations... and Somewhere..., respectively their third and fourth studio-album, are classic CDs.

Madsword.jpg"Madsword - Evolution
The 4 guys of the Italian (again?!) are big Dream Theater-fans: On their 1996 demo CD 'Evolution', Madsword has covered 'The Ytse Jam'. Only daring to do is great, and they did it not bad! Back to the other songs: The other 4 tracks (5:45-10:49) are self made. The great bass playing of Simon Rosani is striking for me. Madsword is playing progmetal with clearly inluences of Rush (track 1) and Dream Theater. Many changes of rythms makes the music very complex and technically difficult. There are two negative points on this CD. 1: the vocals are too weak (but: Madsword is currently looking for a new vocalist). 2: The sound quality is not very good. The 'Underground Symphony' has very much talented bands but one thing that has to be changed is the sound quality. Then the CD will get better and more bands will break through.
I hope I will hear more from this Italians soon!

todivinity.jpg Symmetry - To Divinity
A new prog-metal band from the East of Holland. Symmetry has made an auspicious start for a nice career with their demo "To Divinity". Their music has nice riffs and many tempo-variations without forgetting the musical part. The CD contains 4 varied songs with excellent playing (live too!) and good production. In short: This CD belongs in a progmetal-fans collection! We will defenitely hear something about them again. The Dutch Metal Magazine "Aardschok" wrote: 'Usually CDs released under private supervision are too long, but this one is absolutely too short'.

Sunblaze - Illuminating Heights
German prog-rock with real orchestral support and a little Therion-influence, these are the first remarkable things about this EP. Two songs with a total running time of over 24 minutes, with violins, flutes, clarinets, saxophones and choirs, very many tempo-variations and good musicians. This CD was released in 1997 and produced by Sunblaze. The production has to be a little more 'fat', because guitars usually don't belong in the background.
