Lime:How are
you, Lee? We haven't heard from you for months!
Lee:Hello, I'm in a hotel in london (yawns) we had a late night
yesterday so I'm very tired. (stifles another yawn)
Lime:We heard your lastest single <A little bit
more> from your new CD There
It Is made it to no. 1 on the uk charts! Congrats!
Lee:(Cheers up a little)Thank you, it's our first no.1 so far. Actually,
a few tracks on there it is have pretty good chances of topping the charts. This album has
11 tracks, all covers of classic pop songs from the '70s and '80s. We got the idea when
911 recorded More Than A Woman for the Bee Gees tribute album. We liked it so much,we put
together a list of out favourites like Never Gonna Give You Up (Rick Astley), Boogie
Nights(Heatwave), There It Is (Shalmar) and my personal fave I Wanna Get Next To You (Rose
Royce).
Lime:Does that mean that there
won't be any new songs from 911 this year?
Lee:Our next regional album will be out in August, all
new songs and
better, we're writing them right now.
Lime:What do you think of the
stuff on the charts right now,like cher's
<Believe> and spice girls' <Goodbye> ?
Lee:(Wearily) Cher's good, her song's been on the chart
for 10 weeks now. I've got her single and also <Goodbye> from the spice girls.
Lime:The Uk tabloids have recently disclosed that
Jimmy has a six-year-old son. Did you know about this before the tabloids let it out ?
Lee:(Sighs) Yeah, we knew. It hasn't affected 911 in any way, the fans
are fine and nothing's changed. Jimmy did not tell anybody becaude he is protecting his
son. (Defensively) It's got nothing to do with with anybody else if he's got a son,
anyway.
Lime:Do you have a sordid
secret, too? Has any of your ex-girlfriends pulled a kiss 'n' tell on you ?
Lee:No, no, I haven't got a kid. I've got nothing to hide. I haven't had
any tabloid tales, not yet. But I'm sure when our No. 1s start coming,
the stories will start rolling.
Lime:We read about you and
your girlfriend Gail Porter are splitting up.
Lee:(Cynical laugh) I was only seeing Gail for about 5 weeks so I can't
call it a relationship. The press only started writing about it when I left a
nightclub with her in a taxi. People started putting two and two together
- and got 25 ! Am I dating anybody? (Mysteriously) I might be.
Lime:Do you have a girlfriend
in every city ?
Lee:No, not anymore. I have people I recognize when we go abroad, so we'd
meet up sometimes. 1999 is gonna be the year I find a woman. I want a natural girl, a
natural-looking girl.
Lime:We like spiky new haircut
but we heard you hate it ! Do you want to get
a wacky 'do like Shane of Boyzone next, go bald like Bobak from Another
Level or have it long like Zac Hanson ?
Lee:I don't want to copy anybody. I've white streaks at the moment. I'll
just grow them out first. (Listlessly) Maybe I'll cut it a little shorter then grow it
back.
Lime:There're loads of bands
in the UK now like Five, Steps, Ultra and
B*Witched. Which do you think will make it really big ?
Lee:They're all doing well. B*Witched are brilliant,they've got 3 No. 1's
on Britain. Ultra are doing great too. I'm sure 1999 will be a great
year for them.
Lime:Do 911 feel threatened by
these new acts ? Is it time for you to move on ?
Lee:(Sighs)Nah, we've been around for 3 and a half years. We're not too
worried, we just get on with it. Getting a No.1 is perfect to start off 1999. I think it's
gonna be the best year for 911 yet. We've got this album and a new one coming.
Lime:In out recent Lime
Readers' poll, 911 was voted third by Malaysian
readers and fourth by Singaporean readers in the Fave Pop Group catergory.
Lee:That right?(Moodily) It's good, at least still popular. We want to
say thank you very much to every one who voted. Hopefully, we can come and do a show for
you soon.
Lime:If you could change one
thing about your career, what would it be ?
Lee:To switch management sooner. We're much happier now.
Lime:If we were to talk to
your former teachers, how would you reckon they'll decribe you ?
Lee:Probably that I was the likable one. I used to sit next to the
teachers and they would pass me sweets from under the table. (Sadly) Maybe it's because I
had cancer when I was a kid. Everybody looked out for me.
Lime:Who do you think you were
in your past life, do you think ?
Lee:I don't know, a dog ? A nice dog. With brown hair.
Lime:If you could travel to
the past, which era would you visit ?
Lee:The 60's. I wanna see what it was like when Th Beatles were the
biggest
thing. Just be a fan, experience the screams...
Lime:What retro garb would you
never wear: platform shoes, afro wigs, flared pants psychedelic shirts or huge sunglasses
?
Lee:Afro wigs. I won't look good with big bushy hair. I'm too small.
