The Tea Party are slated to be the subject of a Discovery Planet scientific documentary. In an effort to explain the brand of chemistry that makes a rock ‘n’ roll concert work, a team of television producers have created a special episode of Daily Planet called Science Of Rock And Roll, which followed the Canadian rock band on their recent symphony tour.
The program was shot in November 2002 when the The Tea Party and the 42-piece Orchestre Symphonique de Trois-Rivieres performed a special concert in Quebec City. The film crew captured the band, the crew and the orchestra as the concert stage and equipment were set up, the musicians soundchecked, the audience arrived and the actual performance took place.
Daily Planet: Science Of Rock And Roll isn’t a typical rock concert documentary — it’s about the physical science of a rock concert. In addition to the musicians and crew, the producers talked to scientists including a musicologist and a psychologist to tear apart the show from every possible perspective. Not only will viewers learn about the technical aspects of the show, but they’ll also gain insight as to why audiences react the way they do.
"Advances in technology have changed how we have listened to music for thousands of years," says Daily Planet: Science Of Rock And Roll producer/director Alex Bystram. "This particular concert pushed that technology to the limits by involving a symphony orchestra and a dynamic rock band. We wanted to show viewers what it takes to put on a rock show and treat them to a remarkable concert in the process. I think we did that."
Daily Planet: Science Of Rock And Roll will air on the Discovery Channel on February 10 at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
