THE TEA PARTY
November 13, 1999
The Shaw Conferance Centre
Edmonton, Alberta
Finally! Our concert experience...told by the three of us, and hopefully two other people we managed to go with. Here for your reading pleasure, our take on November 13's concert:
*Robyn*
Well, originally our plan was to go to West Edmonton Mall to attend the meet-and-sign with Edwin that was to take place at the HMV superstore. Unfortunately, through no fault of mine own, I missed the bus, and arrived 30 minutes after my scheduled time. Needless to say, Erika and Caitlin were slightly po'd, but after explaining my bus had left two minutes too early, we decided there was nothing I could've done about it (Or at least I had).
We waited in line for Edwin, but seeing the seemingly endless teeming of teenagers and adults alike waiting in line, we figured it was either stay here, or meet TTP.
We dipomatically decided (2 to 1) that we'd rather meet TTP. So we left. (But not after Erika took a pic of Edwin from a distance)
Boarding the most unefficient Edmonton Transit System, we made our way to The Centre (only after a swift drop-by of Erika's house to stock up on cameras and the like). Arriving at about 4:30, we became the 10-11-and 12th people in the line. After about 2 and a half hours wait, Jeff Burrows appeared (and I don't know why, but I'm always the first one to spot him-'member Edgefest?) and simply would not stop to sign some stuff. How busy he must've been, ignoring fans.
We occasionally did recon assignments, where one of us would go see if we could get into the soundcheck, or possibly find another staircase up into the general area. That failing, and only getting out of it a conversation with a suspicious-looking security guard, I decided to leave my camera behind, lest it be stolen from me by the evil friskers.
In any case, we got in by 7:00, bought signed posters, and secured our spot in front of the stage. Front row centre at a Tea Party show is a lot different than front row centre at other shows. How, you say? I came out of this concert with two bruised ribs, I usually don't get impaled at shows....but alas, how it was worth it! Barring my personal feelings towards the members of TTP, their live shows are always the best music I've ever heard. Unfortunately, we had to be pulled out of the pit, since I could feel my shoulder being dislocated.
Before we were, though, TTP played all their oldies and newies like Fire In the Head, The Bazaar, and Sister Awake. Temptation got the biggest response, though. I think we *just* lasted through Temptation, then we had to get pulled out. Unfortunately, I don't remember the whole setlist, because I am guilty of writing this two years later. Anyhoo, Tea Party + live = FUCKING AWESOME!
