JEFF MARTIN/THE TEA PARTY

The Phoenix Theatre, Toronto
June 4, 2002

Performers: Jeff Martin, Damhnait Doyle, Ian Thornley, Jeff Burrows, Stuart Chatwood, Snow, Sum 41, Steven Paige, Bruce Cockburn, Jim Cuddy

The White Ribbon Campaign has become an annual event (since '97), and Jeff M has been an integral part of it for those 5 years. We also went to the 2000 White Ribbon Campaign in TO, but no matter who is playing this event, it seems to always turn out great. The performers seem to have a great time, and it has a very laid-back atmosphere. The crowd, too, is probably the best I've seen in my years of concert-going; all the people there are considerate (well, as considerate as strangers can get) for eachother, perhaps because Jeff M. kept reminding us allto be considerate?

In any case, they had the same backup band as the last time we saw them, The Dexters; which are always good. The performers went through their songs, Jeff Martin playing along with a few of them (Dammhnait Doyle, Ian Thornley, and Bruce Cockburn). One memorable moment was Steven Paige singing "Without You" (we think that's the song?) the one that goes: "I can't liiiiiive, if living is without yooooou!" George Strombolopolous (sp?) and another George did the announcing, as well as Bill Welychka!

Jeff M and Ian Thornley sang Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley (such a beauteous sound). When Sum 41 came on, they announced their first song as "The new national anthem of Canada" and played "How You Remind Me" by Nickleback. After they played their set, they came down and stood behind us to watch the rest of the show. Bill came out to announce another performer and went: "I spy with my little eye, THE GUYS FROM SUM 41!!!" and they went bolting backstage. HAha hha.

The Tea Party came on, accompanied by Snow! There's something I never thought I would see....Forgive me, but the only song I remember being able to identify was a song by Jethro Tull. Oh, and they played an Ozzy song. All in all, this was an awesome concert. The pictures we have are from Chartattck.com:
