THE TEA PARTY
TRANSMISSION
EMI
Give The Tea Party its due. They've consistently challenged themselves and risen to their own high expectations. With Splendor Solis, they embraced classic rock in a way no-one else would have dared. With The Edges of Twilight, they adapted traditional world-music instruments to their Eastern influences. With Transmission, the band has discovered synthesizers. Producer/guitarist/singer/unofficial leader Jeff Martin has taken copious notes on what his peers are up to and has adapted these new influences into The Tea Party sound. From the looped drums that kick off 'Temptation', to the swirling carouselambra of 'Gyroscope' and a title track which recalls Killing Joke in its proto-industrial intensity, Transmission just might be the album that sees The Tea Party shed those Doors/Zeppelin comparisons and earn a bit of much-overdue critical respect.
