Shirley Manson, front woman of garbage, was born August 26, 1966 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Shirley has an younger and older sister. Her mother was a formerly famous big band singer. A lot of people didn't know this firey red head hails from Scotland because she does a rather good job in hiding her accent while she sings. Rock n roll has been a big part of her whole life. She grew up idolizing Siouxsie Siox and Chrissie Hynde. Rock and roll even helped her through the tough times. During her adolensense period she was tormented in school because of the way she looked. Kids would make fun of her appearence refering to her as a dead fish. During high school she auditioned for a play and ended up with the part of the Wicked Witch from the West. Eventually she lost interest in education in high school and spent most of her time drinking, smoking, and listening to rock n roll. At age 16 she joined her boyfriend's rock band called Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie as a backup singer and a keyboardist. The band lasted for about 10 years but then they broke up and and soon Shirley landed as lead singer in a band called Angelfish. Their hit Suffocate Me appeared on MTV a few times but then the group broke up and Shirley was without a band. Then she tried out to be in garbage and made it...and now here we are. Shirley is married to an Scottish artist named Eddie Farrell. Since Shirley is ussually on tour they mostly keep in touch by the lovely invention called e-mail. Getting the final laugh on her childhood tormentors, Shirley is considered the most sexy and talented woman in rock.
