It was scorching hot this week and I was giving buzz cuts and shaved heads right and left. One in particular stands out - -
Lunch time on Tuesday, nothing much going on until a local jock known for his black thick, curly mullet as much as his pitching ability. He had been up in the big leagues as a reliever and after 15 years retired because of an injury. Mike had just been hired by our local minor league team to be manager and he needed to loose the mullet and get cleaned up.
I took out my Oster and put the #2 (1/4”) attachment on. I click the clippers on and starting on the right side of his head, buzzed up from his earlobe-long sideburn up to his right temple. Thick black curls showered the cape. Buzz up the side of his head over and over reducing all those lovely curls to 1/4” fuzz.
Then I went around to his left side and again, starting with his earlobe-long sideburn, buzzed up the left side of his head to his temple. Black curls fell onto his lap. Again and again I ran the clippers up the side of his head buzzing off all those pretty curls.
I tited his head forward and starting his right, slowly and firmly ran the clippers up the back of his head to his crown shearing off 5” of mullet. Slowly and deliberetly I removed all of the thick black mass of curls on the back of his head, reducing those 5” to 1/4” fuzz.
Starting on his left and keeping his head tilted forward, I ran the clippers back across the top of his head. 3” of thick black curls cascaded to the cape. Buzz straight back slowly and firmly buzzing off all that thick black hair. See it pile up on the cape. Once I finished removing all those pretty curls, I ran the clippers all over his head to make sure it was all even.
I took off the #2 (1/4”) attachement and put on the #1 (3/32”) attachement. I ran the clippers up the right side of his head to his temple buzzing his cut tighter. All the way around his head, I buzzed up slowly and firmly reduceing the 1/4” fuzz to 3/32” stubble. I took off the attachement and using my comb, I blended in the 3/32” stubble on the sides and back with his 1/4” top. Then I shaved his sideburns in half.
I clicked off the clippers and got out the lotion and lathered up around his ears and the back of his neck. Using the straight razor, slowly and carefully I outlined and cleaned up around his ears and neck. Then I lathered up his face and shaved his face in the same slow and carfull way. After that, I got out my Wintergreen tonic and rubbed it slowly and firmly all around his ears, neck and very handsome face. His ice-blue eyes were sparkling with excitment.
When I was done, Mike stood up and rubbed his hands all over his head and face and laughed and said he should have done this sooner. Duh!!!
