Inter league play is back again and one of baseball’s finest dropped in this week. Robin Ventura was in town visiting his sister and liked her husband’s haircut and was told I was the barber. Robin dropped in and told me that he liked his brother-in-law’s haircut and wanted one similar to it. He said that he didn’t want anything as high maintenance as a flat top, but he wanted it to be that short and that style. (Why me?)
So, since Robin’s brown hair was thick and about 3” on top and tapered on sides and back from 1” to 3”, I chose the #3 attachment and adjusted the clipper blades as well so it would leave 1/2”. I tilted his head forward and clicked the clippers on. Starting on his left, I ran the clippers up the side of his head to his temple and continued buzzing up the side of his head around his ear and to the back. Thick brown hair piled up on the cape and the floor. Buzzing up the back of his head to his crown. Slowly and firmly. All the was around the back of his head buzzing up. Then around to his right side. Buzzing straight up. Getting rid of that nice longish taper. Reducing it down to 1/2”. Around his right ear. Then buzzing up the side of his head. The top was next.
Staying on his right side, I ran the clippers back across his head temple to crown. Over and over buzzing across the top of his head buzzing down that 3” of thick brown hair to 1/2” buzz. Finally, over to the left side. I ran the clippers all over his head again just to make sure it was all even.
I took off the #3 attachment and readjusted the blades and then put on the #1A attachment (1/8”) and started on his right side. I buzzed up the side of his head clipping down the 1/2” to 1/8” buzz. Around his ear. Then up the side of his head and around to the back of his head. Buzz up the back of his head over and over around to his right side. I rubbed my hand up the back of his head and buzzed the back of his head again. Then, around his right ear and up the side of his head. Buzz up. Brown fuzz fell to the cape and floor. I clicked the clippers off and rubbed my hands around the sides and back of his head and put the #1 attachment (3/32”) on the clippers and clicked them on. Buzzing down the 1/8” to 3/32” all the way around his head rubbing my hand up the back and sides to make sure I liked it. Mmmmm. 3/32” feels so much better.
Then, I took off the attachment and shaved his thick 4” long sideburns in half. I also cleaned up around his ears and the back of his neck. After that, I took out my favorite comb and blended in the top and the sides. I clicked off the clippers and got out the shaving cream and lathered up around the sides and back of his head. Slowly and carefully, I glided the straight razor around his ears and the back of his neck. Then I lathered up his face and then carefully shaved his very handsome face. When I was done, I slowly and firmly massaged Wintergreen tonic around his ears and the back of his neck and his face.
Robin was very pleased and rubbed his hands all over his buzzed head. He said he would be back. Batter up.
