Casey and I went for a short get-a-way and when we came back there was a message from a former client. Peter Forsberg let me know that a friend of his would be stopping by to see me. I’m not sure if he meant “friend” literally or not, because the next day Mike Richter walked in the shop.

Mike said he would leave the choice up to me, but that he was tired of the mop top. He said shorter would be better. (Duh!) Well, I made small talk while I placed the cape around him and ran my fingers through his thick pompadoured brown hair. He asked me if I was planning on leaving anything. I said no. I waited for a protest. He said ok.

I tilted his head forward and clicked the clippers (without attachment) on. I ran the clipper straight back across the top of his head. 5” or 6” of light brown pompadour fell on the cape. Buzz back, slowly, firmly. Pompadour showers down to the cape. Over and over again across the top of his head until all that 5” or 6” of pompadour is reduced to stubble.

Then to the right side of his head. Shave off the long thick sideburn and continue up the side of his head to his temple. From his temple shave straight back once, 3” or 4” of light brown “wings” fall to the cape and floor. Twice, more gets mowed down. Third time does it. Then around his right ear and on to the back.

Straight up the back side of his head to his crown. Buzz up, slowly and firmly. 4” or 5” of thick light brown hair cascades to the floor. Again and again buzz up. So much falls to the floor, I have to kick it out of the way so I don’t slip. Buzz up removing all that thick lovely hair. Reducing it all to stubble. Then around to his left.

From just behind his left ear buzz forward around his ear. Mass of light brown hair plops on the cape. Then, shave off left sideburn and continue up the side of his head to his temple. Buzz up the side of his head over and over until all the thick brown hair is reduced to stubble. I run the clippers all over his head just to make sure.

Out comes the shaving cream. Lather up his head, slowly rubbing it all over his buzzed head. Mach 3. Slowly, carefully, glide it across the right side of his head and rub my fingers over his head after each swipe of the Mach 3. Long, slow swipe. Long slow rub. Gliding around to the back of his head. Removing all the stubble. Leaving silky smooth skin. Then around to the left side of his head smoothing out all that bristly stubble. On to the top of his head. Carefully, slowly swipe and then rub. Over and over again across the top of his head. Then once again all over this time with a straight razor. After that, I lathered up and shaved his very handsome face. Those stunning blue eyes watching everything I was doing.

Then I slowly and firmly massaged tonic all over his head and face. When I was done he got up and looked in the mirror and looked at me. He liked it and would keep it that way and he would send someone in, and I was to give him the same cut. Yes, Sir!!!!! To say the least, I’ll be rooting for his team this year...Smooth as Ice.
