Hollywood romances are a dime-a-dozen for the most part. But, when a very big (and married) name and a new young gun hook up, then everyone watches to see how long it will last. Most of the time it does not last and usually ends up on the front page fodder.
Meg Ryan and Russle Crowe were such a dangerous liazon. She both being America’s sweetheart and actor Denis Quaid’s wife. He being the star of LA Confidential and Gladiator. Well, the romance only lasted a part of the summer and then it all fell apart.
Well, poor crushed Russle fled LA LA land and came here. Since it has been so very hot, everyone has been getting very short haircuts. Russle was just the next in line one day this last week.
He waited until all of the other patrons had been seen and then went over and locked the door and flipped the sign to “closed.” At first I was nervious and then with his usual Aussie humor said he didn’t mind his haircut ending up on the evening news, just not while he was getting it cut. I can deal with that.
Russle said to “just lop a bunch off.” Sure, no problem, mate. (The “barbie” was warming up.) I run my fingers through his thick curly brown hair. About 3 - 4” all over. Out comes the clippers and on goes #2 attachment (1/4”). Click on the clippers. Buzz , slowly and firmly straight back across the top of his head. Thick, curly brown hair falls to the cape. Buzz again and again. Mowing down all those pretty, thick, brown curls leaving 1/4” buzz. (The “barbie has warmed up, carful.)
To his left. Buzz straight up the side of his head to the temple. Then buzz up over and over. Around his ear. Buzz up the side of his head behind his ear. Thick 3” - 4” of curly brown hair showers the cape and floor. To the back. Buzz slowly up the back of his head. Brown curls fall down. Buzz down the curls to 1/4” fuzz. All the way across the back of his head. Buzz up, curls down. To his right side.
Buzz around his right ear. Thick brown curls land on the cape. Buzz straight up the side of his head behind his ear, then around his ear. Buzz up in front of his ear to his temple. Then buzz slowly and firmly all over his head again rubbing my fingers across his fuzzy head. Change attachements. Off comes #2 (1/4”) on goes #1 (3/32”).
Buzz straight up the right side of his head to his temple. Buzz up the side of his head, around his ear and to the back. Brown fuzz drifts to the cape and floor. Cropping the 1/4” fuzz to 3/32” stubble. Up the back of his head. Over and over again buzz up, fuzz down. All the way around the back of his head and to the left side. Buzzing down the cute fuzz to prickly stubble. Around his left ear and up the left side of his head. Buzz off all brown fuzz on the left side of his head. Then off comes #1 (3/32”) attachement. Out comes flattop comb. Blend the top back and sides all the way around. Put the comb down and shave off his thick medium length sideburns. Click off the clippers.
Out comes the shaving cream. Rub it slowly and firmly around his ears and the back of his neck. Glide the straight razor slowly and carefully around his ears and the back of his neck. Rub fingers around ears and back of the neck. Mmmm. Lather up his face. Slowly and carfully, shave that wonderfully handsome face. Rub fingers after each swipe. Right side. Chin. Neck. Left side. Upper lip. So nice. Breathe. Straight razor down. Tonic out. Slowly and firmly massage the tonic around his ears, the back of the neck and that very handsome face. (The “barbie” just blew up. Good thing I wear a long barber’s jacket.)
Russle got up out of the chair and rubbed his hands all over his head and face. Nodded and said, “good job, mate.” Mel who?
