The world of Soap Opera is filled with beautiful men, most of whom need to visit my shop. Some of them are not allowed to come and visit and some are just unaware such a place exists. This week one of Daytime’s finest stopped by more or less out of frustration with his producer who did not want him to cut his hair. Jacob Young of “General Hospital” walked through the door and plopped down in the chair, ran his fingers through his thick, shaggy blond hair, and told me to “just buzz it down, I want nothing but stubble.” No problem. Lights, camera, action . . .
Starting on his right side, I clicked the attachmentless clippers on and very slowly ran them up the side of his head removing that long, thick sideburn continuing up to his right temple. Several inches of thick blond hair tumbled to the cape and the floor. Then, again. Buzzzz up slowly. Watch the thick blond hair fall down. Around his ear. Buzzzz. More blond hair showers cape and floor. Behind his ear. Buzzzz. Beautiful blond landed on the floor. To the back.
Buzzzz straight up the back of his head. Nape to crown. Slowly. Thick, long, shaggy blond hair cascades to the floor. Over and over again. Long, slow buzzzz up the back of his head. Blond mop on the floor. Kick the mound of blond piled up on the floor out of the way so I don’t slip. Continue. Buzzzz up slowly. Nape to crown. Thick blond mop falls down. To his left.
Behind left ear. Buzzzz up. Blond down. Around his ear to the front. Buzzzz. Thick blond mop plops down on to the cape. Buzzzz slowly straight up the side of his head. Again and again. Buzzing down all that thick, shaggy blond hair to bristly stubble. Remove the left sideburn. Slowly buzz up sideburn to temple. Sides and back done. Top mop next.
Staying on left side. Tilt head forward. Slowly buzz back across the top of his head front to crown. Long, thick blond hair lands on the cape. Buzzzz slowly back. Watch thick blond mop pile up on the cape. Buzzzz. Reducing 5” or 6” of thick blond mop down to prickly stubble. Buzzzz back. More mop plops on cape. One last buzzzz back. Last of the mop tumbles to the cape. Buzz all over his head just to be sure everything was stubbly enough. Click off clippers.
Out comes shaving cream. Just lather around his ears and the back of his neck. With straight razor clean up and define the edges around his ears and the back of his neck. Slowly glide the razor around. Rub fingers after each swipe. All the way around. Swipe, rub. Done. Rub tonic around his ears and the back of his neck. Done. Jacob got up and rubbed his hands all over his buzzed head. “I love it” he said and also added that he would be back with a friend or two. Casting call . . .
