MONTREAL

Say what you will about our city and our province, we must be doing something right. Politics, weather and taxes notwithstanding, musicians -- big musicians -- from both Ontario and British Columbia have pulled up roots recently and are now calling Montreal home. Jeff Martin of The Tea Party moved here about a year ago, so you can imagine what a personal and professional thrill it was for his band to be invited to open for Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at the legendary (and the now abandoned) Montreal Forum last fall. The ex-Zeppelinites, curious about The Tea Party's set, caught part of it from backstage and were impressed enough to ask to meet the band in their dressing room after the show. The conversation continued over a post-concert dinner at a trendy Italian restaurant and, as everyone said goodnight, Page told Martin they should write some songs together for the next Tea Party album. Page even planned to attend Martin's wedding here just before Christmas (reportedly to act as best man!) but couldn't make it at the last minute because of his hectic schedule.
