Charlie Peacock
...in the Light
The Very Best Of
Charlie Peacock
Re:Think Records
This album serves as a good introduction to Charlie Peacock, for those who have not previously heard, or heard of, Charlie; it also serves as a good reintroduction for those of us who have been fans of Charlie for several years.

Included are songs from most of the recordings Charlie has made over the years, including some from the hard to find Island and Exit record releases. It begins, appropriately enough, with In The Light, from his very controversial Love Life. Fans of DC Talk will recognize this tune; they covered it on their Jesus Freak release.

From there, the odyssey through the songs and life of Charlie Peacock begins. It is a long, fruitful journey, one in which the protagonist not only discovers his own shortcomings (Big Man's Hat; Experience; My Mind Played A Trick On Me) but also the saving grace of a benevolent and loving God (One Man Gets Around; Dear Friend). Charlie's growth, not only his musical talent, but also his ability to convey a message through verse, is readily apparent through this release. The only disappointment with this CD is that, unlike the other re:think CD's, this one contains no bonus multimedia tracks. Some video clips from the rare Charlie Peacock videos or some concert footage would have really gone a long way to satisfying this Peacock fan.

For the curious among you, the following "rare" selections are on the new album, "IN THE LIGHT: The Very Best of Charlie Peacock":

  • "Message Boy" (single/video mix)
--the album version appeared on the Island recording.
  • "Counting the Cost"
--available on CD for the first time; ...Island album.
  • "Down In the Lowlands" (Island mix)
--available on CD for the first time.
  • "I Can't Believe It"
--available only on 1992's "No Compromise" tribute.
  • "Lie Down in the Grass" (Exit mix)
--from the out of print debut by same name.
