My Experience With Negativity...

In late mid 1995, I was introduced to Type O Negative for the very first time when I was handed a copy of BLOODY KISSES. It was placed into my CD player during a basketball game in my driveway, and I instantly fell in love with the disc. From the instant I heard "Machine Screw" I was intrigued. "Christian Woman" diverted my attention from the game to the music, and "Black No. 1" got me hooked for life... I bought the disc just days later. I listened to it in my room on end, until OCTOBER RUST was released.

My friends and I anxiously awaited the release of the disc, until finally it was released. Days later, a friend brought a copy of it to my house, where I heard "Wolf Moon..." for the first time, and I was in immediate awe. It took me a couple days to get used to the psychadelics of some of the other tracks, but again, I fell in love with the album. Suddenly, I found myself unable to get enough TON, and I had to hear more.

Soon after, I bought their second CD to be released. I picked up a copy of the ORIGIN OF THE FECES re-release.Upon hearing the first track, "I KNOW YOU'RE FUCKING SOMEONE ELSE", I was again instantly hooked, and realized that TYPE O NEGATIVE wouldn't let me down... Just days later, I purchaced SLOW, DEEP, & HARD , TYPE O's first studio release. I was already quite familiar with most of the tracks, as they appeared live on ORIGIN..., but the album was still a bit different, and was immensely great.

Later, I had the chance to see Type O LIVE (with opening act Drain S.T.H.) here in Fargo, ND. The show was GREAT, complete with dead trees on stage and a special version of a Doors remake - "Light My Fire".

Continuing on through the night, they also played Too Late (Frozen) with "snow" machines which drenched the band in bubbles. Ending with Black No.1, Peter proceded to ritualistically tear the strings off his black Esh.

THE ORIGIN OF NEGATIVITY...

Type O Negative was formed by Icelandic bassist/vocalist Peter Steele after the demise of his first band, Carnivore.

Carnivore hit Brooklyn's underground scene for several years, putting out several albums. The band took on a strange persona, and like a horde of Monols, seemed almost beast-like at times.
