Music from the Darkside.
I like all types of music. Except for country and rap, my tastes
range from classical music; like Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana", Wagner, etc;
to 80's new wave, to gothic and industrial music. A lot of my friends
have never heard of half the bands I like, though. So here are
some resources where you can read about and hear the music of some
of the bands I love.
Some of my favorite bands are:
Siouxsie and the
Banshees. Siouxsie's songs range from the early punk sounds of the late
70's, to ethereal tones which followed her to her last album.
Bauhaus,
who's music pioneered modern day Gothic rock with songs like
Bela Lugosi's Dead.
After Bauhaus broke up in 1984; Daniel Ash (guitar), David J (bass),
and Kevin Haskins (drums) went on to do Love and Rockets.
Peter Murphy, their lead singer, has gone on
to a successful solo career, and I highly reccomend checking out his music.
If you are into industrial music Skinny Puppy
is a must. Their songs are as
cutting edge as the technology behind it. Other industrial bands worth checking out are
Front Line Assembly, Front 242, KMFDM, NIN's "pretty hate machine", Einsturzende Neubaten, and
Ministry's "land of rape and honey" CD.
I have always enjoyed 80's new wave and modern music. Bands like
Soft Cell, Pet Shop Boys, Missing Persons, Adam Ant, Oingo Boingo, Duran Duran, A flock of Seagulls, Berlin
and other club music. The Cure is one of my
favorite bands that came out of this time period. Their music is great, and
Robert Smith looks too cool.
Depeche Mode is another one of my favorite bands
to come out of this time period.
Gothic Rock is a sub culture that has been on the rise for years now, slowly climbing its way up the depths.
Its a culture based on vampires, and the poetic side of death. Music, poetry, black clothes, pale faces, dancing, and custom made fangs
are staples of the society of the undead. Gothics have influenced the mainstream in clothing styles and body piercings.
There are alot of great bands associated with the sect of society.
Bands like Bauhaus, Christian Death, Rosetta Stone, Sisters of Mercy, Dead Can Dance, Joy Division, Death in June,
Current 93, and Alien Sex Fiend are some of my favorites. Click
