Hi All:
I saw the New Orleans show this past Saturday. It was the first show
of their tour and they are obviously still working a few of the kinks out
(soundwise), but Liz did an admirable job and I enjoyed it. I was
especially happy that she played a LOT of her old stuff.
She started at 7:30 and played until about 8:10. She was wearing a
slinky red halter dress and black go-go boots and looked fantastic. She
sounded pretty good on most of the songs, but I couldn't help but think
that her voice is probably much better suited for smaller venues... I love
her voice and her music, of course, but she doesn't have the kind of voice
that can blow out an arena. Oh well, I still enjoyed it because she was up
for it and she played some of my favorite songs, plus a couple of
unexpected ones.
Here's her setlist:
1. 6'1"
2. Never Said
3. Mesmerizing
4. Human Supernova
5. Support System
6. Chopsticks (I was really surprised she did this one; she mentioned
that it is a song that is "almost never performed")
7. Johnny Feelgood
8. Big Tall Man
9. Baby Got It Going
10. Polyester Bride (she sped it up too much, in my opinion, but
otherwise it sounded good)
11. Divorce Song (I was sorry they left out the harmonica parts in this)
(I think these are the correct titles; I didn't check either the CD's
or the webpages to be sure, because I'm running short of time writing
this).
Oh yeah, and I've never been a big Alanis fan, but I still stayed and
watched her concert anyway. I think her voice has gotten better since her
big breakout album, and she doesn't do "that annoying weird voice thing"
too much anymore. I'm still not going to run out and buy her CD, but I'd
be lying if I said she put on a bad show. Her set design was all centered
around India-inspired-batiks and mystical psychedelia. And Alanis herself
was all garbed in silky Indian-type dress... plus running shoes. An
interesting combination.
Still, I'm in mourning for the Liz concert that was SUPPOSED to take
place in a little hole in the wall venue called the Howlin' Wolf in New
Orleans. Sigh. But at least I finally got my little Liz fix, anyway. I
still think her music is the best.

I saw her at the first show in new orleans. The only popular song
liz played was "polyester bride". THe sound crew must have been deaf or
something though becaus they had her vocals turned all the way down and the
guitars turned up.
