"Awesome" is the word that Q 106 personality Belinda (Macon, Georgia) used in 1998 to describe the folk-rock sound of local group red fish blu fish. She was one of the first to point out the group's use of complex vocal harmonies to those currently in the local music scene. The next year would prove to be pivotal in that the band worked on their inner chemistry, enjoyed regular radio play from local stations, and developed a ravenous following.
Things got started when Chris Moncrief, upon earning a degree in classical guitar, decided along with his younger brother Matt to formed a group that focused heavily on harmonies.
The band then picked up Preston Hawke; a local percussionist, after hearing him only once because they could see in Preston the ability to understand and convey the "spirit" of any musical genre. After several rehearsals the rfbf played their first show; opening for a local favorite at Macon's largest club. They would carry this momentum for the next year and see it culminate into a successful CD that sold 200 units at the release party alone. As well as a sold out show at the historic Douglass Theatre on December 12, 1998. In 1999, they were named "Macon's Top Original Band". A lineup change in 2000 followed by another successful album found the band at a crossroads.
After experimenting with two different female lead vocalists; Preston, Matt, Chris chose the creative freedom that a three-piece lineup could provide. The guitar, bass, drums trio boasts an edgy thinking-man's rock and simultaneously incorporates elements of hard-core, classical, and jazz into their unique, garage-band format.
Currently the band is in the process of recording their third album and gigging Southeast, landing spots opening for Merl Saunders, Kevn Kenny, Sister Hazel, and Drivin' and Cryin' as their newest incarnation generates a fresh energy.
