Passing `Speed'
By Fran Fried
At the time of the interview, Dogstar's Rob Mailhouse said none of the band members had seen "Speed 2," the sequel to the 1994 action film that made bassist Keanu Reeves a major star. Reeves passed on the sequel; with the film taking a major nosedive at the box office, it seems he made the right choice.
"He had the script there," Mailhouse recalled, "and he said to us, ‘Read this. What do you think?' It was horrible. It was the worst piece of crap I've ever read. I said, ‘Are you gonna do this?' He said, ‘I don't know.' I think he had a gut feeling. He's very intelligent, especially when it comes to scripts."Reeves bypassed "Speed 2" to star in "The Devil's Advocate" with Al Pacino. At seven months, it's the longest film shoot Reeves has ever done. Mailhouse said Reeves has to go back for more shooting the first week of July.
