Rule Topics UPDATED:29 JAN 00-changed wandering monster routine from turn based to time based. No more waves of monsters with no chance to mine, repair, ect.. Also changed the polymorph other effect to timed based....so hit that sheep while you can! Monsters also get restless and try and call reinforcements based on time. No time to rest during battle!

There are two goals to win for Castle:

  1. Reach level 5
  2. Accumulate 1500 Gold
  1. Start by mining gold.
  2. Pay attention to special abilities of monsters.
  3. Use magic wisely.
  4. Watch your hitpoints.
  5. Mine for gold as fast as you can. Try the space bar.
  6. If you have alot of gold...research for an edge.
  7. Don't waste time between monster attacks. It's time based when new monsters attack. The higher your level the more frequent the attacks.

SAVING and LOADING GAME
A new useful feature is the ability to load and save a game in progress. Seems that this opition doesn't work for everyone. Try it and see.
To Save a game simply cast the "Time Prison" Spell.

To Load a game simply cast the "Time Warp" Spell.

SPELL CASTING
Mana is the unit of magic for casting spells.
Press the drop down form to see all the spells available.
Once you select a spell to cast..press the cast button. There are 14 spells at this time. Suggestions welcome.
  1. Heal: Costs 1 mana and heals 3 points of damage
  2. Calm Monster: Costs 1 mana. Used when monsters get restless. Calms them down and returns monster damage to normal. There is another secret effect for this spell too. Baa.
  3. Magic Missle: Costs 2 mana. Good amount of damage. Awesome chance to hit. Great cheap offense.
  4. Courage: Costs 2 mana. Cast this when your men are scared. Makes them return to the fight and makes them less likely to be frightened for a period of time.
  5. Lightning: Costs 3.mana. Great damage and good hit chance.
  6. Flesh to Gold: Cost 4 mana. This useful spell attempts to turn a creature to gold. All for your taking. Sometimes fails.
  7. PolyMorph Self: Cost 4 mana. A powerful healing spell.
  8. FireBall: Cost 5 mana. A powerful spell that does great damage to multiple monsters or hits the same target twice.
  9. Invisibility: Cost mana 7 mana. Makes your castle unseen to monsters. While invisible you can't be found by wandering monsters. If already in battle the monsters can no longer hit you.
  10. PolyMorph Other: Cost 6 mana. Hehe..try it and see.....
  11. Essence Drain: Cost 7 mana. This spell does awesome damage and also heals the castle by drawing on the stolen life source.
  12. Meteor Shower: Costs 8 mana. Similar to fire ball but more powerful and it also strikes four times!
  13. Time Prison: Costs as much as your mana maximum. This simply saves your game in progress.
  14. Time Warp: Costs as much as your mana maximum. This simply loads your game in progress.

Combat
Quite often you will be attacked by monsters. You can continue to do anything you want but will have monsters swiping at you. It is wise to kill monsters as quickly as possible.
If you let a monster get RESTLESS they will increase in toughness and attack damage. If you wait even longer to fight them....they will start calling for reinforcements. If a monster calls for reinforcements there is a chance that another monster will join the frey. The attacks are sequential. The monster attacks then you can do what you want for your turn....attack, buy items, repair whatever.
You have a few options to attack with:
  1. Spells: see SPELL CASTING
  2. Archers: Archers are an unlimited supply of offense. They have the least chance to hit and do the least amount of damage.
  3. Boiling Oil: Limited supply. Uses tubs. Better chance to hit than Archers and more potential damage. A must have for some monsters.
  4. Catapult: Limited supply. Uses shots. Best chance to hit and most damage of the non spell attacks. Takes one round to load.
  5. Castle Mana: Always hits always kills! Does 15 points of castle damage though. Use sparingly.
  6. Bribe: Enter the amount you wish to attempt to bribe the monsters with. They either take it and leave......or take it and Fight. Try your luck.

After the battle is over you will receive some gold and experience points. The amount varies with the toughness of the monster. You will go up in level when reaching certain amounts of experience. Going up in level will add bonuses to armor, damage and your Mana Maximum.
There are about 15 types of monsters that may attack you. They all vary in strengths and weaknesses. Be advised, some monsters are immune to some attacks and some attacks work better against some monsters. You will learn this through game play. :-)

Buying Items
In order to replenish your items you must use "Ye Ol Shoppe" located on the left side of the castle. Here you can buy or do a variety of things:
  1. Train: Costs 300 Gold. This increases your attack damage bonus by 1.
  2. Moat: Costs 300 Gold. This increases your defense bonus by 1.
  3. Elixer: Costs 30 Gold. This will increase your Mana used for spell casting by 3. Will not increase it beyond your mana maximum.
  4. Shot: Cost 20 Gold. Increases Catapult supply by 3.
  5. Tub: Cost 10 Gold. Increases Boiling Oil supply by 3.
  6. Bricks: Cost 5 Gold. Increases Brick supply by 2.
  7. Research: Cost 30 Gold. Useful but risky chance to increase any your stats or weapon supply. There is a chance the lab will explode o beware.

Send Your Scores to NEON
Once you have won the game or at anytime you feel like it. You can submit your score to NEON to be posted on the winners page. To do this all you have to do is scroll down to the bottom of the page to the winner submission block. Feel free to change your name there if you want. You don't have to send the score when you win unless you want to. You are free to continue to play and improve your score. See how well YOU can do.

Player Stats
There are a number of stats that you need to understand for effective game play:
  1. Castle Strength: The amount of damage the castle can take before destruction.
  2. Damage Bonus: The bonus added to your damage when attacking.
  3. Armor Bonus: The amount subtracted from monster damage.
  4. Gold: Your amount of Gold.
  5. Experience: You experience amount.
  6. Level: Your castle level.
  7. Scout Report: Tells you how many and what type of monsters. Also tells you your men and catapult status.

Jousting

Ver 3.5 only
One of the unique abilities in the game is to challenge the monsters to a Joust. Sometimes the monsters themselves my challenge you.
To do this press the Joust button on the castle. This will load the Joust board in the right frame. The Joust board consists of 9 shields and a counter. To start press on the helmet in the center. The object is to press the mouse button on the knight on the horse four times before the counter reaches 200.
This is made difficult by the varying speeds that the knight hops around the 9 shields. If you miss the timer will jump as well. Once you have hit him four times the joust will stop. To resume the normal game of castle press "End Joust". If the counter reaches 200 you will lose the joust and lose gold and the castle will be damaged. Once you've lost you do the same as winning. Press the "End Joust" button
