"The music video of 'The Gift' was designed to be a comment on the packaging and interpretation of injustice, human suffering and violence by the television media and the growing apathy we as TV viewers have in response to these images.
The homogenization of humanity's ability to wreak havoc upon itself and the consequential packaging of events, such as the Gulf War, the invasion of Panama, the Holocaust, natural and human-made devastation into 'bites' of sound and picture has an unfortunate effect of making almost any kind of injustice acceptable these days.
The idea behind trying to create these images that explode out of the screen is an attempt to make people sit up and question the way in which they accept this TV fodder. If you are shaken at the end, then the music video has done it's job."
Richard Lowenstein (Director) - 1993
The Gift was the first single released from Full Moon, Dirty Hearts. Released on Friday October 1st, 1993 it was written by Jon Farriss and Michael Hutchence and deals with "accepting yourself through the love of another".
