A DIALOGUE READ FROM THE BOTTOM UP!!!!!!! This conversation actually happpened. The people are real, the nicknames unchanged. The coversation I feel is very incomplete and I wish we could have talked longer. I also feel that a few of my points are loose and unsuported, especially the last point I make.
In retrospect (some 8-9 months later), I'm not making much sence. I think I'm making myself clear for what I was thinking at the time, but nevertheless, it's bullshit. Partly anyway. I'd love to have this conversation again. I still disagree with what's her name, but I think I'd stress freedom of mind a little more, rather than relaying on this "principles based on rational thought" idea so much.
-------------------------------------- 9/28/98 2:50 AM sammy - rational thought is very defined. math, computer programs and science are all done by rational thinkers 9/28/98 2:50 AM spriT - it was really nice talking to you...i honestly enjoyed it....thanks for the intellectual conversation.... 9/28/98 2:48 AM spriT - alright...i just sensed anger...geez....rational thought is not clearly defined so all people go by it.... 9/28/98 2:47 AM sammy - well we're also talking over a fucking phone lines. I am not cold, insensitive and mean , you'll have to take my word for it. I have a sence of humour and I know how to have fun I am HUMAN! I am all these and more. However, I do try and think with a clear rational logical way,and I base my own ethics and principles on rational thought 9/28/98 2:46 AM spriT - i'm going to bed now....good night.... 9/28/98 2:42 AM spriT - no...but i'm not really sensing any emotions out of you either.... 9/28/98 2:42 AM sammy - not true...there's another misconception. let me make my point, from what you know of ME am I cold and mean to you? 9/28/98 2:41 AM spriT - this is the human mind we're talking about.....you must be a robot in order think that logically and if you did you would probably be extremely rude/mean/insensitive to others... 9/28/98 2:40 AM sammy - have the pontential to think as though it were a computer, with pure logic. 9/28/98 2:40 AM sammy - and that's NOT thinking rationaly then...thinking rationally is thinking from logic. logic is something that will always be and never changing like mathematics, like a science. that's when you have to start thinking about these principles from a scientific point of view not, a phycological point of view. you are confusing the two. mpst people when shown this kind of thinking automatically assumes that the mind is vulnerable, however it does... con't 9/28/98 2:36 AM spriT - no can do...from the time you are able to think rationally, you will have been influenced by others and that is where you will base your frame of mind... 9/28/98 2:35 AM sammy - and that's where you have to teach, train and figure out for yourself. he set up the hypothosis, principles based on reason, now you as the scientist are to conduct the experiments for yourself in your mind 9/28/98 2:33 AM spriT - how would one do that.....? from the time you are born you are bombarded with ideas and opinions which you form your basis of thinking on.... 9/28/98 2:31 AM sammy - and that's where religion comes in...but that is not using reason or logic. what he is saying is that all minds are in basic form, the same (but different) you have to distinguish principles based on teachings (like your up bringing) from those that are established from with in a rational mind 9/28/98 2:28 AM spriT - the logical frame of mind is influenced heavily on your upbringing...which would include religious teachings, experiences.... 9/28/98 2:27 AM sammy - religion is passed through tradition and dogma. rational thought starts from within individual minds. starting with questions which are presented undoubtably like "is there a god?", a very good question indeed. instead of going to religion to find he answer, which you';ll never find there because of the conflicting views, you go to yourself and seek the answer form with in from a rational LOGICAL frame of mind 9/28/98 2:23 AM spriT - people of different religions...... 9/28/98 2:23 AM sammy - example 9/28/98 2:22 AM spriT - rational thought can be defined in different ways by different people..... 9/28/98 2:21 AM spriT - yah...sounds pretty interesting...basically what it was saying is that we ask ourselves questions we never will be able to answer b/c logic, experiences and values clash together..... (I sent her a link to the Kant quote that's on the previous page) 9/28/98 2:21 AM sammy - he uses reason and rational thought to answer questions that are posed by human nature. something everyone should learn 9/28/98 2:19 AM sammy - did you read it? 9/28/98 2:10 AM spriT - and what way is that? 9/28/98 2:09 AM sammy - beacuse he thinks the way your mind was ment to think, that's how i'm learning to think. metaphysic style 9/28/98 2:07 AM spriT - and what makes him "the man"? 9/28/98 2:06 AM sammy - because he's da man 9/28/98 2:05 AM spriT - and why do you always read him? 9/28/98 2:05 AM sammy - some stuff on aristotle and Immanual Kant, i'm always reading Kant though 9/28/98 2:04 AM spriT - good frame of mind......reading anything good lately? 9/28/98 2:03 AM sammy - i don't care, i'm not there now so that's all that matters....right now is time for ICQ, reading and some of the good ol' ludwig van. 9/28/98 2:02 AM spriT - oh cool....i really feel for you.... 9/28/98 2:01 AM sammy - a chinese restaurant 9/28/98 2:00 AM spriT - where? 9/28/98 2:00 AM sammy - i wish, back breaking labor for pennies more like it, not now, but that's all I do. 42 hours a week cleaning dishes and cleaning floors and walls and sinks and cutting vegitables and ectectectectect... 9/28/98 1:58 AM spriT - homework....? 9/28/98 1:57 AM sammy - work 9/28/98 1:56 AM spriT - WHAT'S UP!!! |
