Setlist:
1. (I Gotta) Dance To Keep From Crying
2. Young Man Blues (M. Allison)
3. Long Tall Shorty
4. Pretty Thing (E. McDaniel)
5. Here 'Tis (E. McDaniel)
6. You Really Got Me (R. Davies)
7. Green Onions
8. Money (Bradford/B. Gordy)
Notes: An early Who club performance, possibly recorded on the Revox recorder given to Pete by the Who's manager, Kit Lambert, to make song demos. The sound is FAR from perfect, but the recording has great historical value, as it's the earliest known recorded live performance. The fairly standard rock and r&b repertoire would be transformed in a few months when Pete began writing his own songs for the Who. John Atkins dates the tape as sometime after August 15, 1964, the date that the Kinks' "You Really Got Me" entered the charts. If the performance was in August, it was likely made at the Scene Club. The Who began their legendary resiency at the Marquee Club, Soho, on November 24, 1964, and the recording could be from that venue as well.

Setlist:
1. Heatwave (E. Holland/L. Dozier/B. Holland)
2. Dancing In The Street (W. Stevenson/M. Gaye/I. Hunter)
3. Barbara Ann (F. Fassert)
4. Daddy Rolling Stone (O. Blackwell)
5. Uptight (S. Wonder)
6. A Legal Matter (P. Townshend)
7. Substitute (P. Townshend)
8. My Generation (P. Townshend)
Notes: As the '64 show above, this recording isn't really comparable to the moe familiar later live Who recordings. It's a non-professional recording made nearly 33 years ago, and the sound suffers accordingly. There are also some very noticeable drop-outs during songs, so I would suggest getting this show only if you appreciate its historical value.

Notes: One of the seminal Who bootleg performances. Live At The Fillmore East was considered for the first official live LP by the Who. The recording is excellent, but it reveals a somewhat uneven performance (at one point during "Boris," Roger and John are singing two different verses--rather painful on the ears). Still, an awesome show from the pre-Tommy days when the Who were still building their reputation as the world's greatest live rock band. Interesting stage dialogue by Pete as he talks about the circumstances around the creation of "Little Billy" ("we don't want to tell anybody what to smoke...") and introduces the "extra long, grooooovy version" of "My Generation." Also notable are the rare live renditions of "Relax" and Eddie Cochran's "My Way" (a.k.a. "Easy Goin' Guy"). Highly recommended.
