Notes: The 1975 and '76 Who tours are my favorites. They're the last tours with Keith Moon, and the band seemed to reach a peak in their performances to which they could nevr return. Although lacking some of the youthful fire of the '69-'70 Tommy tours, these shows were tight and professional (too tight according to some). The tape synchronization and other assorted sound problems which had lent an air of chaos to the '73 and '74 tours was now largely a thing of the past. The band was older and wiser, and attempted to bring a bit more maturity to their stage show with new numbers like "However Much I Booze," "Slip Kid," and "Dreaming From The Waist" although they soon reverted to more familiar, safer songs. Still, they managed to put on one powerhouse performance after another, winning over the music critics again and again. Tommy returned as a medley segment in '75, with several songs performed differently, inspired by the movie versions
Now, this particular show is somewhat weak compared to those dealt with below, first because the recording simply isn't as good, and secondly because it was early in the tour and the band hadn't yet hit it's stride. Still, the tape reveals that a rollicking good time was had by all in Keith's boyhood home of Wembley. The Who obviously enjoyed playing to the "hometown crowd" and are in high spirits. "However Much I Booze" is a rarely-played treat, as is Keith's feeble (but funny) attempt at "Johnny B. Goode. An interesting show, nevertheless, and they would get much, much better in the course of the year.

Notes: Another excellent audience recording marred only by the fact that the bootleggers mike catches too much audience chatter. Otherwise, the sound is quite clear and well-balanced and the performance is outstanding. One of the best-ever versions of "Magic Bus" and even "Boris" rocks at this concert. The band is truly in top form. Highly recommended.
