Notes: The early shows of this tour feature quite a few rare songs and a great deal of improvisation (allowing Pete to try out new song ideas). This show and those at MSG later in September (see below) are recommended for the power of the performances and the novelty and experimentation they contained.

Notes: One of the finest Who shows I've ever heard. Not a sonically perfect bootleg, but the brilliance of the concert comes through. Everyone in the band plays at his level best, and Pete is in rare form, with on-the-spot intelligence and creativity. Two debut titles on this night--"Dance It Away" (which evolved considerably over the years) and "That's Rock 'N' Roll." Pete's comments during "Big Boss Man" get to the heart of the matter: "Who do we work for? Who do we work for? We fucking work for you, you toerags!" Classic Pete Townshend.

Notes: Another fantastic show. About an hour into the performance, Pete cuts his hand, requiring stitches, and the other guys try desperately to hold the audience's attention until he returns. The roar from the crowd signalling Pete's return during "Magic Bus" is quite welcome indeed. An improvised medley incorporates hits by Johnny Kidd & The Pirates, the Searchers, and the Sex Pistols, as well as snatches of Pete's new song idea, "Cat's In The Cupboard."
