Dude (Looks Like a Lady) - A tall story of a young man's surprise when he finds out that his new friend is packing more than a smile underneath her dress, "Dude" is an infectious slice of Aerosmith at their very best - effortlessly surfing the waters between pop and rock without losing a drop of that much-needed credibility or humour in the process. Spinning around a simplistic double stop motif from Perry, the song is a joy from start to finish and cannily identifies what producer Fairbairn was bringing to the party. Instead of the band sounding blunt and metallic, he was imbuing them with a light commercial, yet still steely touch that wailed "Put me on the radio!" And it worked. "Dude" would hit the Top 20 on both sides of the Atlantic, and provide as good an advertisement for "Permanent Vacation" as they could get. It's all here, Steven rocking like a mad dog, horns pumping along the melody line and a one-take Perry solo that raises the hairs on the back of your neck. As to whether the story in the song is true, you'd have to ask them - The Complete Guide to the Music of Aerosmith by Matin Power
