What It Takes (Making Of)

...loyalty, a big word around the Aerosmith camp, and Tyler and Perry have tested it to the extremes. The two parted ways nearly 20 years ago due to personality clashes and it's likely that those very differences brought them back together five years later. Tyler is the yang to Perry's yin. The smooth-faced singer is ultra-alert, on, ready to go. He's an optimist, stumbling over new ideas every time he opens his mouth and assaulting the low-key Perry with his findings. Perry, on the other hand, is a curmudgeon, more leathery in mindset and physicality than Tyler. He's quiet and waits until it's worth his while to talk. When he does, he has the band's thickest Boston brogue, saying words like "whateva" and "togetha." Tyler needles Perry with quick quips, and Perry dismisses Tyler's quirky comments. It's an inherent friction that makes the two fire like a powerful engine, pulling the band through all sorts of rough terrain - and occasionally blowing a gasket along the way.
