Reviews:
posted to descent:
as to the review i fully support jörg (at the chainofflowers homepage,
section dreamtour review vienna) iīve been to stuttgart and munich, too
and i must say though there were only about 3000 people in vienna they
were twice as enthusiastic as the 17000 mentioned before. everybody
singing, dancing, laughing the whole set through, even singing along to
the new songs (which are really great live by the way). setwise and
soundwise munich canīt be beaten (perfect!) but i think it depends where
you are (i always try to get within the first 5 rows, remember that in
most european venues there is no seating in the arena). so the overall
concert was really great, all the songs being played extremely
concentrated, robert playing loads of guitar, singing very emotional,
sometimes he kind of spoke to himself during his solos - i love to see
him turning on his guitar after the lyric part and then squeezing out
every feedbackdriven note thatīs in there - wait til you see him play a
hundred years, 39, bloodflowers (he looks so loose during these
killersolos as if heīd unpack his lunchbox ore something, no tongue in
cheek) and of course a forest.
i just have to say a few words more to a forest - itīs sooooo good now
as robert rediscovered his love to guitarplaying, he plays on from the
beginning, getting heavier and heavier then heīs now screaming loudly a
third `into the treeeeeeeeeeesī again and after again and again he
plays real hard and never looses tension (as he did on the last tours)
until the bass-guitar duel where he gets very melodic, then coming
almost to a stop (the helicopterlike sound) only to push it further with
another very melodic part to the real end (reminds me on the 85ī
versions). although they do a short version now i wouldnīt want to
change it - yeah, ok maybe into a long hard version :).
now back to vienna: thereīs only one drop of bitterness - though they
got this incredible audience response they did only two sets of encores,
the set was quite similar to stuttgart (with a few changes) but there
they came back a third time to play faith! strange - everybody was so
heated up and so much into it but they kind of didnīt reward it, so i
was a little bit disappointed.... maybe you think: yeah look at him, he
has got the possibility to see three wonderful concerts in a week and
then heīs whining around cause they did one song less. but, you know you
stand there and sing along and scream and whistle and jump and dance
like all the other people around and you see the band enjoy it but then
the lights just go on and its over and you know from the experiences
before how it could have ended (yes with faith!!). i just donīt know
why, cause robert was in a great mood, singing and playing on full
scale, doing funny faces, laughing when all the people summed the play
for today keyboard theme in an incredible loudness. real fun was when he
got down on his knees to fix something with his pedals during
disintegration and all the peple in the front rows cheered and laughed
so he just stayed on his knees smiling back into the audience and then
to roger and then they both shook their heads still smiling... he didnīt
really say goodnight when they left the stage either... and now that
iīve heard that the whole set will be on radio (saturday midnight MET on
austrian radio station fm4!) it hurts double - ahhhhhhhh! no radio
version of faith!!
by the way i think he sings a few lines of 2 late as additional lyrics
in faith now - so i wait for you where i always wait - and some lines
more i couldnīt understand - did someone? faith is just great now and
robert even plays on with the fender VI through the first lyric
sections- yes singing and playing. itīs not the long version but very
intense and honest. itīs my absolute favourite (along with all mine,
siamese twins and pornography), so what should i say..
a propos pornography - i was absolutely overwhelmed when they did it in
munich not only cause itīs the only song of the dreamtour i havent heard
live before (36 concerts since 87ī) but it was so impressive the sound
shattering right through you, blue and red lights and unbelievable
guitar work - robert used this small metal pipe (donīt know what itīs
called, iīm an ignorant) but he didnīt put it on his finger but in the
palm of his left hand and then longed over the guitar sliding up an down
the strings - loud hard brilliant
so now iīve got two weeks time to recover my voice and iīm full with
anticipation for paris! i just hope iīll have the possibility to see a
concert like munich again - pure perfection! but as they are alternating
a light set and a heavy set (3 hours and loads of f faith and
pornography) there is agood chance. now iīve seen three but iīve not
heard the kiss (please, please, please), a strange day, if only tonight
we could sleep and the soundchecked cold, push, a night like this,
charlotte sometimes, like cockatoos, friday iīm in love and wrong number
so there is a lot to look forward to!
