The Time Line:

 

1948 - Ozzy Osbourne is born December 3rd. in Aston, Birmingham, England.

1970 - Black Sabbath releases its eponymous debut. It, and the band's subsequent `70s albums, define the genre "Heavy Metal". Ozzy is thus recognized as one of Heavy Metal's premiere figures.

1978 - Black Sabbath ceases to exist in its true potency when Ozzy is "fired" after seven albums.

1980 - Ozzy signs with Jet Records, The Blizzard of Ozz is formed, and their eponymous debut album turns platinum plus in the U.S.

1981 - Diary of a Madman, the second Ozzy solo album, enjoys yet more platinum attention.

1982 - In March, guitarist Randy Rhoads dies in an unfortunate plane accident while on tour in the U.S. In response to a live album by Black Sabbath called Live Evil, Ozzy releases Speak of the Devil. This too enjoys platinum success.

1983 - Ozzy signs to Epic Records. He plays the U.S. Festival in San Bernardino, CA, to over 350,000 people. Bark at the Moon is recorded and released with new guitarist Jake E. Lee. It is yet another platinum-plus album for Ozzy.

1985 - Ozzy plays the first Rock in Rio festival to over 200,000 people, and also reunites with Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and Tony Iommi for a one-off Black Sabbath Live Aid reunion.

1986 - Ozzy releases The Ultimate Sin... another platinum-plus release. He also headlines the Donington festival and survives a lawsuit that charged "Suicide Solution" was responsible for a teenage suicide in California.

1987 - In response to massive requests, Ozzy releases the Tribute album honoring the Randy Rhoads-era band. It proves to be as popular as other releases, hitting platinum-plus.

1988 - As well as releasing No Rest for the Wicked (platinum plus again!), Ozzy unveils 21-year-old New Jersey boy Zakk Wylde as his new guitarist, replacing Lee.

1989 - Ozzy gives $15,000 to AIDS charities after a show in Philadelphia. He then plays the Moscow Music Festival to over 100,000 people where all proceeds go to benefit drug and alcohol programs.

1991 - Ozzy releases No More Tears and embarks upon his most successful spell of touring and sales to date, with No More Tears hitting multi-platinum status.

1992 - Ozzy wins first Grammy Award for "I Don't Want to Change the World." Afterward, Ozzy plans his retirement from the music business and does his "No More Tours" tour. Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward reunite one last time for Ozzy's last ever live gig in Costa Mesa, CA, on November 15th. After three days of retirement, Ozzy decides he can not handle the boredom and begins work on another album.

1993 - Ozzy releases a double live set, Live and Loud, from the "No More Tours" shows in `92. Yes, it is indeed platinum.

1995 - Ozzy releases a new studio album entitled Ozzmosis after first touring Brazil, Argentina, and Chile where he headlines the Monsters of Rock festival over Alice Cooper, Faith No More, Megadeth, Therapy?, Clawfinger and Paradise Lost to sold-out stadiums.
