From the Dallas Observer, March 14th, 1991
"Coming of the Century," Course of Empire
The most powerful cut on the LP, red-eye menacing and bone-raw. Course of Empire's
over-wrought melodrama, on the record at least, becomes its diametrical opposite -
its blood-spilling pain pleasure, and its angst and endorphined nirvana. The lyrical
and vocal comparisons to the newly mediafied Jim Morrison are unavoidable, but on the
ominous "Coming," "The End" is not merely a poetic vision - it's real ("Everybody
wants the shrine to crumble"). Armageddon Expressed - don't leave Earth without it.
