STANDING ROOM ONLY

At one time, this was Gus Van Sant's official project for 1999/2000. The film, set to star John Travolta and real-life wife Kelly Preston, is setto be a biopic of Jimmy Roselli, a lounge singer who gets in trouble with the mob. Due to Travolta's full schedule of projects, Standing Room Only has been pushed back indefinitely. Though it doesn't sound a whole lot like a Gus Van Sant project, he is still attached to the film and the rumor is that it will be made in the next few years.

NEWS ABOUT THE FILM

February 3, 1999: According to film.com, it's official. Kelly Preston has signed on to play Jimmy Roselli's wife in Standing Room Only. John Travolta will definitely be playing the night club singer and Van Sant is "officially" set to direct this biopic originally entitled The Jimmy Roselli Story. This will mark the first time that Travolta and Preston, real life husband and wife, have worked together since The Experts (1988), where they met for the first time.

January 30, 1999: John Travolta's real life wife, Kelly Preston, is set to co-star with Travolta in Standing Room Only. John is supposedly in preparation for the role, though i've heard no further news of Van Sant's involvement. Stay tuned.

January 13, 1999: There hasn't been much news about Van Sant since Psycho has come out. Until today that is. In a story I've heard nothing about at all, Van Sant is apparently gearing up to go back to work. Film.com reported today that he is set to direct John Travolta in a new movie that should begin filming in March. The movie is entitled Standing Room Only and is supposedly the story of a night club singer who refuses to go in with the mafia on something, and so they're after him. Sounds way more Scorsese than Van Sant, but we'll see. Remember, i've only heard this from one source, and that doesn't mean it's true, though it very well could be.
