~CANDLE MAGICK~
PREPERATION:
Room: However simple a ritual may be, preperation is very important. Burning candles needs to be somewhere where they can be undisturbed for many rituals they must be left burning for many hours/days unmoved. It should also be where there will be no risk of fire. Another thing you should look for in choosing a room to preform a ritual would be somewhere quiet, where you can be without interuption and still be comfortible and peaceful. Ideal rooms would be an attic or bacement.
Alter: For alters almost anything will do. You could use a table, box, chest, or even the floor itself. You will need something-preferably about two and a half feet long by two feet long. Card tables do nicely. If you wish the table may be covered with a cloth, It should be white. You will need a number of candle holders. They may be of any shape, type, or material. Try to find something on the smaller and less elaborate side though, when you doing a ritual with many candles you will need room for them all!
Incense: Incense is not very often mentioned in connection with candle burning but is still extremly important. It should always be burned during rituals. It is a great help in concentration and establishing the correct peace of mind necessaryas a preliminary. There is the origonal belief that a assending smoke carries ones wishes upwards to the gods. Any incense will do unless one is mentioned. A tip for using cones is to place them in a dish, ash tray, or cup with sand on the bottom. This will absorb any heat and prevent cracking (if using a cone) or scorching of the alter.
Practitioner: There is no need to fast or go on any praticular diet before practice of candle-burning. It’s much easier to concentrate and be at peace when well fed and comfortable. Symbolic cleansing is usualy indulged before a ritual. This simply means to dip into a bath at comfortible water which a handful of salt has been added. There is no need to wash simply feeling the water clense away the stress, negitivity, and any unwanted vib’s.
Candles: The candles may bo of any type. However the color is very important. The most important preperation of candle magick is the ”Dressing” of the candle before use. The candle should be dressed by the practitioner him/her self.
The dressing is done with oils. There are many candle dressing oils avalible at any flea-market or any store that sells things of this type. If the oil is colored it should olny be used on candles of the same color. If you can not obtain annointing oils then simply olive oil will do. When annointing your candle you take the oil in your hands and rub it into the candle from the center out. I.E: start in the center and rub in the oil upwards, or to the downwards. NEVER rub it from the up to down, always from center! While doing this you should be concentrating on the subject, problem, or question at hand.
Types of Candles: There are four different tyes of candles used for rituals. The alter candles, the Offeratory candles, Astral candles, and the Day candles
Alter candles: These are two tall white candles which are always on the alter. They are placed at the two far corners and are always lit before any of the others.
Offeratory candles: These are the candles in various sybolic colors(table 2) dependednt upon the work to be done as requested.
Astral Candles:these candles represent the petitioner and are chosen depending on the person’s birth date (table 1) They can be purchased or made in the two color combination as well.
Day candles: Theses may be used in any of the rituals (table 3) dependent upon the day of preformance. These candles are placed on the right front of the alter.
